Demoscene Tropes and Memes
category: offtopic [glöplog]
Nectarine Demoscene Radio has a few of its own. Here's a handful of them I can recall quickly:
- by Lukelove is a rather ridiculous punchy song using He-Man samples - it's telling that it survived multiple versions of the site simply by virtue of being ridiculously catchy and polarizing at the same time.
- Rob Is Jarig is a meme here too, naturally!
- [url=https://scenestream.net/demovibes/song/9555/]Uphold The Tradition by Roz is a very uplifting dance track that was popular in the 2000s version of Nectarine - it's pretty much the hymn of those who remember the old days.
- Fuck Your Horse, the soundtrack to Ode To Ramon 1, again by virtue of being ridiculous.
- I Would Like a Fika by a Dr. Fikalover is a good-time song filled with multiple versions of "would you like a fika? (ooh!) yes, I'd like some fika! (oooh!)" - making it both an earworm and a memetic marker of a good weekend.
- There was a time when djrandom really loved requesting the soundtrack to that one Comic Bakery boy band spoof video.
- Volkoren Brood features someone burping out "I'd like some wholewheat breeeeeeaaaaaaad!" in Dutch.
- One of our jingles goes like this:
"(spooky narrator) You've locked the doors... You turned off the light... But what did you with the cat? (aaah, kitty!) That's right - he was listening to Nectarine! (spooky piano music)"
- One song features someone saying "Ding! Alarm-alarm-alaaarm!" in German a few times - which are its only enjoyable parts. For a few years, it was our CRAP REQ ALERT in the oneliner.
- The Infamous Nectarine Oneliner has spawned a few local memes, such as:
-- "confirmasse" (a long and French version of "ok" popularised by an avid user arrakis)
-- "free (username)" (you can't post more than 3 messages in a row there, so if someone wants you to keep talking they will "free" you to show their support)
