There, the problem is that politics wants free advertising done by non profit associations. For a city, it's the cheapest way to seduce the voters. And an other problem is that the mass of voters used to eat tv shit for years. Never mind to understand technologies but only consume it. City or gov. money goes to the most popular, as opera or the street theater to entertain whole families. Whatever the political wing : they only want to keep the po-wer.

The scene is better prepared for this kind of shit due to its history, though :)

I've always been kind of disturbed by democratic government funded culture programs. Mostly because it's politics all the way down, filling forms, conforming to either a "let's do something accessible to the public" or the reverse "let's conform to what we think is good for the public". Private funders have more chance to be quirky..

I wonder if a demoparty really needs government funding.
When I say "I wonder", you have to read "I don't know and would want to know so if anybody could tell me exactly why so we can have a discussion" and not "guys, you suck" :)

Because, I know the party experience is greater with huge halls, huge screens and bassier sound systems but it certainly costs more than medium hall, ok screens and basic sound systems.

Of course a party doesn´t NEED government funding. I´m pretty sure that most parties out there are "self-sustainable".

At least my experience is that you can achieve a lot by asking your personal network for help/sponsorship, and plan well ahead.

And that is not meant to be a harsh comment towards MAiN at all - of course they need to revise what to do, when their budget suddenly changes drastically some months before the party.

Well, Alternative Party seems to manage rather well with the corporate funding it receives .... ;)

if more scandinavians would make it to MAiN, it could be completly funded with revenues from the liqour-bar.
