Unless that's a threat to based on my browser and internet security - find me a large group of young (or old) women who are deeply involved in ICT who are also studying/teaching at a tertiary level.

Since I've been there fairly recently I can tell you - the largest demographic includes young males aged from late teens to late twenties (young blokes - it's Australian vernacular).
I could count the number of women in the room on 1 hand and the number of people over 30 on the other. The lecturer was actually both. Lovely lady, a bit cleverer than you maaali I must say.

I cannot understand why Pouet seems to attract more mental cases and people with serious social difficulties more than most other sites. I can understand mentally disturbed people who might find some solace in the things they used to do and that they can still relate after their minds have gone astray, but the latter part is beyond me. Is it the lack of moderation and the relative freedom of being an attention whore?

Fwiw, I was referring to the selective reading you do, the mental cases are different people. For example, you picked the part about me calling you asshole, but you completely regarded the first part and the constructive post I did on the previous page which would have answered your question in the first place. This was quite predictable, of course, because you either are a troll or then you have serious difficulties understanding the kind of discourse that goes on here.

I can try one more time. You lament the lack of community here, but you are completely wrong. There is a very deep community of friendship here. You just do not bring anything to the table. But all I want to say to Ringo, is just let it go. Reaction to reaction fuels more. They are not gonna like you more the more your react.

Also, I learned, it doesn't matter this is a geek community. I thought I would find only nice people in a geek community but it's not the case, it's just a random bunch of people who like demoes. Also, even if you do demos, you are still to expect negative attitude. I do demos but some time in the past, because I opened desperate threads (and I wasn't even trolling, I was obsessed by expressing things) shit hit the fan, and much later, even if I was quite I couldn't even start a normal conversation without shitty post by specific members (who have done stuff in demos). What I did was just keep a lower profile (stfu in few words), not enough crazy threads per year (I only have rare spikes, like the stupid anger at drugs/diet forum). And still you had to wait for a long time to cure your negative karma (even years after I have improved my attitude, some people still were hostile to everything I posted), it's like Elder Scrolls where if you do shit, it even takes time to clear up. Even if I am producing demos, keeping the bad attitude won't get me far. It feels a bit unfair even to me, but I just keep lower profile than in the past and try to ignore people who have a negative attitude because they see my nickname and remember my past.

I believe there are few more non-scene people who pass around here, maybe post few random post and leave, but nobody is raising attention. You did raise attention while also being the random guy who is not very interested in participating in our community, so the reaction was expected (and it's not my reaction, I personally wasn't offended by you, I am more offended by few high profile sceners that doesn't seem to like me, and to be honest I liked at one point that a non-scener challenged this attitude, that's why I like you).

Meanwhile, I don't think people are hostile towards every newbie here. There are newbies that come here and say "I wanna learn to code demos" or "here is my first attempt, sorry it's so lame, I will improve" and these people are positively handled. There could be some newbie posting, I don't know, the same noise effect over, and maybe in the first reaction that guy screams "This is how you handle newcomers?", which is ok, but you gotta be more humble and say I can improve. Or even if you are unable to improve, just don't give a fuck, see for example BITS, I really like this guy, he posts the same kind of demos for years and doesn't care, he doesn't even waste time to interact to our arguments, I guess (and hope) he found some equilibrium of happiness in what he is developing, regardless if we sometimes think "wtf is this guy?".

So, I mean there are many different attitudes of newcomers and non-sceners alike, the more humble or low profile you are, the less shit you will get. Now you just dragged the opposite sides, while not-scener you even try to be heard and argue against the majority of community, so good luck with that, it's gonna be hard to win hearts :).

p.s. Even Adok is disliked too much, who really supported the diskmag scene with HUGI and don't argue so frequently.
