PILGRIMAGE 2004: party ticket prices announced!
category: general [glöplog]
or smack?
do not forget the hookers and blackjack!
phoenix: i dont worship chimera. i do think its a nice demo though...
and legalize: i was just defending rasmus' point of view on why a party should be less lectures and more socializing.

radman: im sorry but i got too much spam/bad attitude from him on outreach mailing list through the last couple years (has it been 2 already??) to be willing to applaud. maybe if i was american and too lazy to organize an own party i might've had more consideration for the effort he has been clearly putting out.
even though they did have dc5 presence (which is a tpolm succursal for those who dont know *evil giggles*) and nullsleep concert and saw the return of the great dan to the demomaking world, and even assimilated you in the demoparty orga team, i still have my reservations reguarding legalize and pilgrimage.maybe in a couple years of more proven value and scene dedication.
im a hard person to please, i know.
maybe if legalize coded a sequal to chimera, then maybe, just maybe...

phoenix: deesbab is the best thing to ever grace a pc screen. _everyone_ knows that.

What's this? A what? This just in: I'm now getting word from legalize that we are ... what? Oh!
We are just one block walking distance from SLC's premiere strip club "Golden Trails".
hahaha...
Hrm... (/me does research...)
Apparently they have a $0 cover fee. What a perfect price, too. Their website is cheesy but, hah... What do you expect.

I think the misconception is, that since america is so 'free' that this sort of thing can even come close to BP, well guess what it can't. Try to organize such an event here, and it would be considered a rave or something, and promptly shut down. Fucking with all the red tape, zoning and local laws, prevents any sort of event from taking place, short of someone actually owning the property to be used, and hosting it themselves.
While it is true that it seems Legalize is intent on bringing the demoscene to the mainstream, it is not true of most everyone else, including myself. But I don't see anyone else here trying to organize anything else on their own. I'm sure not going to go through that. I'm a lazy bastard.
US is not as open and 'free' as many people think, and this puts limitations on what kind of event can go on, or how certain types of events may be perceived.
Most NA sceners are not as big as partiers as EU, plain and simple. Most are just geeks, and geeks alone (saddens me, I assure you).
If you want beer filled pics for slengpung, look no further than the afterparty I threw at my hotel room last year. We promptly stocked up on local brews, packs of cigs, and sat around talking and tracking. Bonds were made. Look forward to doing it again this year.
Lastly, I feel so special for trucks mention of me, hooray. Come visit me in Chicago please.

Oh, and to add to that, Why go... Good question. For me, it's a chance to get the hell out of the flat midwest, See pretty mountains, explore the area, meet new people, hang out with them, go out for beers, watch demos, compete, have fun.
If more people come to do this, it makes it more enjoyable for me, and obviously them.
My justification for going has always been, because it's there. And I actually can afford it.
The party is what you make of it, not where it's hosted and how much it costs.

And, guys, the part about the tracking thing afterward, and the bonding and the lot, that's what's a party is about. Not getting drunk. Not seminars.
It's what I'd send my friends and aquaintences who have some remote interest in the demoscene a million miles to spend a million dollars for 5 minutes of enjoyment, with no qualms.
THAT'S what I'd like to hear of for the upcoming Pilgrimage demoscene celebration. But, again, I don't know anything (:
And we SO need to send Optimus.

SirG There was plenty of what you are describing at Pilgrimage 2003! I didn't get to enjoy much of it because I had to run around and do all kinds of org stuff myself, but there were plenty of people hanging out and doing the socializing thing.
You should take note that all these people describing Pilgrimage 2003 as if it were just a bunch of seminars WERE NOT THERE.

Here's a neat link to one of last years "seminars". :)

Also, if you are considering or planning on coming to Salt Lake City for a longer period of time, check out these MPEGs:

The last one is pretty nice and gives you an idea of what else the city has to offer, you know, other than a chance in a life time... ;)

rasmus: "you guys"? "us"? just who are you generalizing here? and who made you demoscene god?
The collective entitiy of his awesome ability to show a lot of flatshaded cubes and 1337 skills in horseback riding, ofcourse. ;)
And I second the idea of a demoparty near/at burning man!
ps: you forgot that you're on the mediterranian shore ;)
... this thread so lost it's value after the first page or so..

That was a strategic move indeed. ;)
erhm. im not against commercial sponsors, they have been in the demoscene for ages. even corporate-looking persons have been that. what i'm against is moving the european underground demoscene into expensive american hotels, conferences and seminars. atleast that goes against my demoscene spirit.
and please go away with you david+goliathism, i'd have it the same way in europe.

oh no. people outside of europe are learning about demos. boo fucking hoo.
oh no, people outside europe are learning about demos but AREN'T RELEASING ANY AND TRYING TO DO A CONTEXT CHANGE, BOO HOO.

The purpose of Pilgrimage is definately to get new demos released. I count 7 so far.
okay, perhaps i've put my arguments in the wrong thread :) i thought this pilgrimage was one of those 'demoscene outreach'-thingies.
i still disapprove to arranging a demoscene thingie at some expensive hotel.
