scene music stolen

category: music [glöplog]
britelite: Good stuff. Christ Abbott just posted this at the Remix64-board also:

Quote:
(talking about the "8-bit stylez" sample-CD)

It's clean, as far as I know. The producers of that CD were very aware of the need to program their own samples and loops, and did so. I didn't find a single game SFX, let alone a tune taken from anyone.

I know Timbaland managed to find this tune and use it, but it's highly unlikely (just by virtue of probability and the sheer weight of tunes in HVSC) that anyone else has used the tune: certainly if a sample CD company did a C64 CD and were intent on mischief, they'd go to Galway and Hubbard first.

Someone on YouTube made a new video to "clear up" the issue. :) Despite the way it is presented and the plugs at the end, it's actually pretty good. :)

i don't like the idea that people use this opportunity to advertise "the 8 bit community" nor the scene. basicly what this guy says in his youtube-video, is, that in the end it's more ok that timberland ripped tempest off because "the 8 bit community" got exposure. i don't agree.

i don't agree that it's ok to rip off other people's music and make money of it. i do agree what he said about sampling and what timberland did.

chavez: Hm? All I hear him saying is something in the veins of "if you like 8-bit stuff, check this out"

Dr. Neckbeard sure loves the camera! This is probably easier to parse for some people than the original videos, I guess. I wish the guy would stop moving his hands though.

The plug was a bit so-so to me -it plugs a documentary about non-demo music, but well... I guess it's harmless :)

Settle this issue the internet community way:
If you want Nelly Furtado's track "Do it", download it without paying for it.

Jeez :(

clearly 'the internet community way' is not 'the right way'

thank you very much.

Oh-oh. Now the http://hvsc.c64.org/-link has been mentioned at the Hip-Hop-forum of futureproducers.com -- expect more rips in the future then. :)

Gargaj: Nice. :)

Btw; I mailed Uberschall and asked them directly if "Acidjazzed Evening" (or any part and/or variation of it) is on the "8-bits stylez" sample-CD.

If the admins where on the side of the demoscene, they wouldn't have deleted the original paragraph from Timbaland's article and linked to a new one with a small sentence that is easily ignored.

end of the day, we all know what needs to happen, we don't even need to say it.

gargaj: about freakin' time too. They were really, really nitpicky about *any* article's legitimacy up until the Finnish Broadcasting link was translated :)

Kodoichi: Whoa there Nelly. (ha ha.) First off, centralized information is usually better, secondly, there's a separate section and a hatlink now, which are much more easily noticable.

Shifter: Sorry, they were partly right about it... Legitimacy cannot be based on "conclusions". :/

Shifter: Wouldn't you be? After all; finnish reads as gobbledygook to pretty much anyone but the finns. :) (Perhaps Hungarians understand some of it, eh Gargaj? :)

PS: The videos have got 652 views at Google Video also. I searched for "timbaland" at Google and clicked the "Video"-link and there they were, pretty close to the top.

Thing about Wikipedia is that you must treat it as a 3 year old, who cannot think, combine and derive it's own conclusions. You cannot fill it with assumptions and your own thoughts, even if you're right.

respect to SubversiveLibrarian for explaining something incredibly obvious, very slowly... It's a shame that the people who need to listen to him probably won't have the attention span. Now if only somebody can create the video "Copyright law as applied to sampling, explained in 30 seconds with the use of kittens".

I think that this fact involves the WHOLE demoscene. We are not a "major" with shitloads of lawyers, but we are LOTS of people. If we let one person steal one of "our" productions and we make a lot of "noise" around it without passing to legal actions, in the future it could happen again (imagine a producer who never heard of the demoscene before... and gets to know the demoscene thanks to all the publicity we're doing... "oh look! we can milk this demoscene stuff as we fucking like, cause they can't defend their work!"...

I propose to finance the legal action. Everybody could help, with a little effort. It's in our own interest. We have to defend ourself. (grin)

United we win. o/

(here, i'm kindof serious.)

(or... we could contact Eminem and tell him to rap on the original version with flame lyrics on timbaland... sudden success, shitloads of lawyers defending the original version, humiliated timbaland and demoscene FLAWLESS VICTORY!!!!!11!!11!!1111)

(here, not so much... but why not?... i think that we could *use* the success they made ripping the song right *against them*... or talk to nelly furtado, directly... she's so cute and she can understand... <3)

gloom: the point is that the finnish article was verbatim taken from the other articles they dismissed. I don't understand the alien moon language of the Suomi space travellers any more, but I find it hard to accept that non-conventional media are considered unreliable by something as volatile as Wikipedia -especially when mainstream media has a disturbing tendency to have inaccuracies and manipulation present in their reporting too.

But whatever, they run it now. Good show.

And gasman: please don't hurt the kittens :(
