Here's an edited version of the first edition of the book which keeps it up to date with 1.8. Better than nothing I guess.
I did try to make a game this year with ruby (shoes, more precisely, one of _why's previous projects) but fighting against the runtime performance made it feel kind of pointless.
Guess I should've moved stuff gradually to the C Core but then what worth is a scripting language if you have to pay the C price again and again?
