Has anyone tried to move or copy a large batch of big files between devices (partitions or USB) in Vista ?

That was solved by one of the early updates.
My Vista is SP1, DELL pre-installed, frequently updated, and when doing that the probability of hanging is high.
Optanes: interesting. this could be one of the problems, although some folders contained text files and were never opened with any player and still had the seal... But I see what you mean. Question is - why on my system the problem was frequent. But I don't have it now, so I cannot check.

Your suggestion is obsolete because Windows Vista and Windows 7 are different versions of the OS.

i copy very large files over smb all the time here without any issue (on xp). I've not seen that issue at all, on tons of pcs.
maybe Vista got a special random function which plants a specific problem on any individual computer so that people complain on different issues and each complaint is a minority so noone will care.
