America's tiniest demo party is just a week and change away!

I hope you can show them what the real scene spirit is
This is the third time I've seen you talk about "real scene spirit", but you still fail to explain what that is or why it must never ever ever EVER evolve or change or modify itself in the tiniest bit from your preconcieved notion of what that statement means.

I'm not saying you're wrong that Tamis has a genuine interest in the scene, Graga - but just having an interest does not justify giving away 50 dev-boxes with no value in return. That's how companies work, and it should be a no-brainer :)
You're right, it is indeed a no-brainer. Already creative sceners + better tools = more/better/cooler demos.

you don't really believe the "better/cooler" part. i hope. right? being in a scene where people pull equally cool pieces of work on rotten old hardware as on the newest shit?
(and i don't mean chessboard tunnels on an atmega - which is completely fucking awesome in it's own right though - but for example the inward stuff on speccy, ephidrena's 4k at bp, the focus demos on c64, etcetera)
skebbel: Well, that remains to be seen of course, but I do believe that giving people more powerful tools has a tendency to spawn new creations. If they are better, well.. we'll see I guess. :) They'll probably be different, for sure, which is very demosceneish in itself.
Still, there is no denying that Majic12 was extra leet on the count of Maxwell not having a 486. :)

MaxWOOD.
skrebbel: Oh, an example -- I believe that much of the (PC) 4k stuff coming out now really benefits/is made possible by having fast GPUs.
*i'm so old*

Is this some sort of personal organ size-optimizing thing that only euros do? If so, I'm looking forward to a seminar at NVscene. MaxWOOD.
If giving away cutting edge hardware means that people will actually use the cutting edge features (and so we won't have to wait 4 years for SM4.0 to become accepted in the scene, as we did with SM3.0) fucking bring it on!
Oops wrong thread!
parapete: good point
And now we're down to a week. I drive from Boston to Cleveland tomorrow, tons of stuff in tow, and start helping with things.
\o/
I sincerely wish I could join you. I'm eagerly awaiting the party reports. =)
I'm just waiting for the prods. ;)
w00t, I'm driving up from philly on Thursday. Going to make the blockparty lounge sort of an electric park, which will bear no resemblance to Break Point what so ever;-) . Also have to finish the wild trophies tonight and tomorrow, go beer shopping, and pack ohboyohboyohboy!
IC, your efforts really made blockparty much more "party"-like last year, despite the very sterile and corporate tone of the hotel. Can't wait to see what you come up with this time :)
"beer shopping" sold me :)
dubmood, is it because you're in france that you're starting to act just like zest?
it seems so
whos zest?
we'll support Blockparty. Rock on, guys!
does anyone know if there's going to be a live stream from the partyplace?
blockparty is so amazing... Got a big-ish projector here and watching new and old demos and drinking too much caffeine. Pics and stuff at 3pm tomorrow when the deadline is!
I hope this year (now, this weekend :) the party will be even more succesfull than in 2007 !
