Do you prefer knowing what you can win, or you like the surprise ?

Winning itself is prize enough.
I tend to donate most if not all of my "tangible" prize winnings to local area friends who provided me a place to stay/sleep, etc. while I was visiting.

I AM IN IT FOR THE MONEY!
/me wonders how big radman's prize money pool is :)
dwarf :
you asked again "so do you think it's a good idea to tell what you could win to get more visitors ?"
my answer is "no" for me, the most important is not prizes but party organization like :
- interesting and hard competitions, online contributors allowed without prize
- honnest sceners and organizators wich respect the competition's rules (stop : sample rip, 2d scans, using free textures in 3d, stop playing unfinished prods in democompo!, respect the deadlines and the announced compo computer limits ...)
- meeting with interesting people, elite scene, well known people, experienced people to share demoscene things, and with newbies to learn them something creative
- cheap entrence fee, cheap food, cheap travel
- a cool place with shower, food, free parking, security for devices and people, clean toilets, quiet sleeping ...
- no network (it kill the real meetings), no warez (waste of time, waste of bandwidth), no internet (irc kill the demopartys, people speak online instead of speaking to their table's neighbor), only possibility to speak and share with sceners at the party place (but a direct show can be done online via Dtv for non present people)
- lots of productions showed in competitions, high level of competitions, dynamic audience, a true skills battle
- cool state of mind, no drunken bastard, crazy competitions, animations, lots of fun ...
- friendship and fun in a competition way!

ELITE SCENE!
MONEY MONEY MONEY, the demoscene is the easist way to make a living :) along with the glory.. it pays soooo good. :)
i admit knowing what the demo compo prize will be at function2003 and made a demo to win - or rather, it was a motivation to finish it. (i won without competition actually, being the single entry.)
on the other hand i also won the function2004 demo compo but i gave the prize away because i thought the epilepsy demo was better.

gargaj: but you were wrong!
never said i was smart :D
(irc kill the demopartys, people speak online instead of speaking to their table's neighbor),
Actually I found that quite cool.

i think i spoke online to my table's neigbour some times.
I would like to point out that i have my oppinion about this as well, but i wanted your feeling about this, i feel exactly the same as ile, its not about winning the prize but the party...
HAHAHAHA I win HAHAHAHA
I want a sponsored compo where one could win millions of romanian pesos!! Preferably sponsored by the Bucuresti Amiga Department and possibly also Global Amiga Youth or even Aktivt Norsk Amiga Landslag.. This proposition is broadly supported by Aktive Norske Ungdommer Somdrivermeddata--
