Scene.org Awards 2011
category: parties [glöplog]
Is that hypotetical or do you really want to organize a party?
really. we should talk.
Feel free to use your favorite means of communication.
You know I'd actually be interested in a Portuguese party.
Decipher, me too, but I FORGOT TO COME TO INERCIA DEMOPARTY 2005
i would instantly go to portugal for a demoparty!
if I could go somewhere instantly, I'd go to Hawaii and nurse this fucking cold
I've never been to Portugal - sounds intriguing. Please pick a timeslot that doesn't compete too much with other parties/general holidays, ok?

Not that I code, but working on a demo at the partyplace has always been sort of a magical rush, and though I wish many of the prods I've been involved in would have had just one more day of proper work behind them, I still cherish the mad dash to the finish that is partycoding. :)why would you want to code at a party?
To follow up on what Gloom said, productivity tends to grow exponential towards the deadline, at least for us. So NOT using the last two days is just throwing away very productive time!
80% of my demo work is partycoded and i am just fucked every time after doing this, but hey, you're right it is FUN :) it's just the "if we had more time it would have been cool" thing that bothers me always.
thats why i try to finish my stuff in advance now, having more time to party. it did work great this year at breakpoint :) i think i'll stick to this if possible. we're all living close anyway, so having more meetings in advance (like every weekend before the party) creates the same magic rush.

really...was there ever any easter without a major demoparty in germany?
no.
And this wont happen in 2011.
But there is ofcourse nothing confirmed yet, how could it when even the organizers wait for several confirmations and informations.
I totally understand that ppl like scamp who spend lots of heart, blood, sweat, time and many more feel disappointed and disagree with this solution.

docd: so how about the people who spend all of those for different parties, like the gathering?
I dont want to be misunderstood, thats what i mentioned in a post before.
I understand both sides very well, that is the crux - that there are even sides.
But my personal meaning is quite the similar, TG is more a gamerparty than a sceneparty...if not Germany than would imho ASM be the better choice.

I don't want to throw fuel on the fire, but how is ASM any different from TG with regards to the number of gamers?

Why should the amount of heart, blood, sweat and time spent by Scamp organizing Breakpoint have anything at all to do with the Scene.org Awards, seeing as the awards were organized by and paid for by Scene.org, not Breakpoint? Sure, the BP beamteam has been super-helpfull in the past, but when you break it down, BP was a stage and a crowd -- and that's the level of BP involvement in the awards.I totally understand that ppl like scamp who spend lots of heart, blood, sweat, time and many more feel disappointed and disagree with this solution.
"how is ASM any different from TG with regards to the number of gamers?" - it's probably different in the number of sceners, at least that's what the slenpung pictures reflect :D
by the way, where are those slengpung images from assembly 2010 ??
teo: Oh, being inside at ASM usually leaves me feeling pretty alienated among gamers. Outside at Boozemblys, on the other hand...
Anyway, I think the biggest argument against ASM is that 6 months is a long time to wait for the awards for the previous year's productions. I'm sure Melwyn, living in Helsinki and all, would have preferred ASM if he found it a viable choice.

"Boozembly", of course.
When did the definition of what a demoparty is depend on the number of _gamers_ present? Isn't the numbers of demosceners and social, creative people present a better measure?
Last year The Gathering sold 91 demoscene tickets, plus 20 mentors and democrew, and received 240 entries in the creative compos. In my humble opinion, this is not bad when throwing a demoparty in the shadow of the last breakpoint ever.
Note that the vast majority of the audience at TG do not buy demoscene tickets as they don't want to be restricted from being seated with their non-demoscene friends. (Demoscene tickets require seating in the creative lounge). This doesn't mean that they don't contribute to the compos, attend seminars or socialize with other creative people.
Granted, all the people buying TG demotickets are not neccessarily what you consider "traditional demosceners". But they are creative people none the less that code demos, create graphics, compose music or make games. And many of them like to compete, learn and meet other people who do the same. Isn't this what the demoscene is all about?

duckers, that.. and beer :)
maybe arcane wants to try out the non-alcohol policy at kindergarden this year.. just to see how it goes? :)
non-alcohol policy at kindergarden cos arcane drank it all!
actually at kindergarden 97, arcane did have a strict non-alcohol policy. on himself. since he was the main organizer.
Well, that was pretty much the case at all the Kindergardens from 94 to .. 2000 I guess, although strict is pushing it.. we did have a few beers..
I don't really see what that has to do with anything though..
And Xerxes: Have no fear! We can run a "No alcohol for Xerxes"-rule, to see if there's any future to such a restriction. ;)
