Japan earthquake

category: offtopic [glöplog]
Any news from our Japanese friends like System K etc? I hope they're ok.

My friend Marie is in Tokyo; she has internet access at the moment which is at a standstill, cellphone networks are down but phone lines seem okay at the moment - aftershocks are still quite scary. She had to walk for three hours to get home as the trains had stopped too.

A very sad day indeed. :(

The BBC videos about it were both shivering and awesome at the same time.

My best wishes and condolences to everyone affected.

A big "hang in there" and courage to all the people that are affected, since this is a pan-pacific thing

Yeah, looks terrible. We have friends there, hopefully they're ok as they're quite far from Sendai.

The force of nature is beyond belief.

Yes, sad thing of course.. Completely expected though, as is the next big one in California. With bad luck the consequences can be far more dramatic than on this one. The biggest one ever recorded in Chile was 6 times stronger than this one, but fortunately didn't cause that much damage as it could.

NHK says 350 people were died and 550 people are missing.

Sceners in Tokyo (Kioku/SystemK, qatnonoil, Zavie, 301z) are tweeting after earth quake.
It seems they are fine.

But there might be more earth quake and tunami. I hope they are at safe place.

Good to hear, stay strong over there!
The public transportation system in Tokyo has been completely paralyzed. I've just returned home after 8 hours of walking. It could be beneficial to my health.

We feel with you. In the Vienna region we sometimes have earthquakes as well, but they are by far not as severe. The strongest earthquake in our region occured in the year 1590 (Wikipedia). It had a magnitude of 6.0.

@Adok: You might find an Anschluss now with Japan?
Stupid chauvinistic pig...

A workmate of mine is down there, doing an integration job for our software project.

Yesterday he posted a bunch of "lol" and "wtf" emails regarding the customers code-base. Haven't heard from him today...

:-/

Now if you are really objective, who would you say is behaving like an asshole in this thread? I'd say WSW.

@ Adik - are you so self-absorbed that you fail to see that this thread has nothing to do with you, where you live or how many earthquakes that area has had? Almost all of the posts here are wishing others safety and well-wishes. Yours is the only self-referential 1 from someone not directly involved. What does your stupendous IQ make of that then hey?

Considering that was the majority of your post, exactly how is telling them about your home and its history empathizing (let alone wishing them well) with Japanese affected by the quake on Fri. & this morning?
We really need a pm/gaz function so's threads like this don't get hijacked (I know I'm a hypocrite!)
