preacher, I think it comes with windows it's an overkill x86_64 in the end, and cray provides windows bundled cx1:s :)

How much drystone-mips can it crunch, and how many threads do I need to reach the theoretical perfomance?

yeti: go for raytracing or other kinds of non-hw rendering
!ntel (xeon) processors, so not for me...
The mips will depend on the number of processors installed, but it'll probably be pretty high.

Now they do have more info available: http://www.altparty.org/2009/competition-rules.html#csc-compo. It seems to be a Linux box with 12 quadcore Xeons, Red Hat, OpenMP and MPI 2.
