dead? hell no!

category: general [glöplog]
i might be the last one expected to start a thread like this, but here goes nothing..

i have noticed that most people who are claiming that "the scene is dead" (which has been a favorite topic since the 90's as far as i know) are useless hangarounds and non-productive people. the spirit of competition and the will to contribute has hardly ever been greater than it is now. i do agree that the scene lacks "matured" contributors (some of them are making comebacks one way or another though..), but from my point of view, making something like a demo can still be an awful lot of fun.

besides that, the assembly release have convinced me to attempt the making of the first serious tpb demo (which can be expected this winter). stuff like aura for laura (se, ps2 demo, #2) is just so tasty.

respect goes to all of you who have done serious attempts the past few years, and especially the ones who succeeded in doing as such (especially farbrausch, unique, the soopadoopa danes, mfx/kewlers, the other bypass'ers, the 3pixels people, tpolm, 3state, orange, mankind, tbl-amiga, madwizards, loonies, ephidrena, kolor, the upcoming tbc people, haujobb, mainloop, popsy, mandarin, and so on..).

quality productions have always persisted, and for the coming year(s), they will.

so, thanks for inspiring me and i hope i'll be able to compete again in the near future.

fuckings to those who talk shit, and greetings to all the others.

I suggest you use integer coordinates for your triangles. This will result in a huge speed-up and no visual artefacts.

sagacity: you have no clue about either 3d programming or about humour.

I was aware of that, no need for pointing that out.

yep, scene lives! I wish I also had time to make decent demos again :P

as long as you don't make them in Java and promise to make them 'even better' after you've released it, i guess you're pretty much safe dairos ;)

Incidentally, what's wrong with integers?

What's wrong with Java demos, plek? Don't like eg godog by Komplex?
And what's wrong with making things 'even better' after releasing, like eg FR-030?

We can conclude that the scene is dead when it no longer appeals to us. Instead of saying that the scene holds no interest people say the scene is dead because they think it will cause a reaction and inspire a change while the statement also expresses their dissatisfaction at the same time. Correct?

Incorrect, people say that the scene is dead because they are stupid; the scene is not dead. There are parties and releases thus the scene is alive.

Sure, you can allways make the argument that the scene concists of this or that quota of uncreative lamers and in turn think of how those lamers have influenced the scene. After reading some of the messages on here i have come to the conclusion that most of the people who make these kind of statements (the scene is dead etc.) are lamers themselves. This more or less the same conclusion that plek has drawn.

The exactly same thing happened with the artscene at the shift from bbs'es to internet, people complained that the scene was dead and all was bad. And the ones that complained the most was the passive lamers who never acually were a part of the scene. Complaining, critisizing and over-analyzing aspects of the scene was thier way of relating to the scene because they had nothing else to contribute.

The creative part of 'the scene' are more intrested in just being creative than they are about 'the scene' itself. Those people who constantly complain are socially incompetent lamers who need people around them to make them feel good and provide them with releases.

If you want to 'provoke a reaction' then you should make a good release. If you find the scene uninteresting then you should quit bothering people.
Plek nailed it.
Thank you Alla_Xul for so eloquently stating what most of us more-or-less silent types have known all along.

Unfortunately in unmoderated forums such as pouet, the lamer really fucks up the signal-to-noise ratio. But that's the way it goes. They can keep doing nothing but bitch, and the rest of us can keep on being productive and contributing to make the scene better.

when i first got in touch with the scene (early 89 if i reckall right) people was saying that the scene was dead. I honestly dont give a rats ass about such statements, because they have been part of the scene forever. And the day they stop, is the day the scene is actually dead i reckon.

Plek's got some good valid points, and good luck with the demo mate. (Oh and if you want a solid dnb track, i have one that is unreleased + i want to piss my label off because they are fokkers.)

The only reason I can think of why people actually believe the scene to be dying is because it's passing them by.

Scali, go fix your java intro or whatever. Stop nagging Sag :)
