MindCandy Volume 3 - demo playlist feedback

category: general [glöplog]
Hi all,

Production on the next MindCandy disc (discs actually, both Blu-ray and DVD copies in one set) is underway. The tentative playlist of demos has been released, along with some other details. Most of the capturing of the demos on the list is already complete. But of course, we still need to contact groups for permission, which we will do next. We'll add more info on the website as it gets finalized, and we'll hopefully have an HD trailer ready in time for Assembly. Feedback, comments, and questions are welcome here.

That's a pretty awesome playlist, i'm sure many will have some extra or alternative recomendations, but i would be glad to own that BluRay disc as it is for sure...

As far as Route 1066 goes i'm ok with it, just spoke with DVS and he's also cool with it as i'm sure Smash will be also, but will double check on Monday if he doesent reply here first :)

Concerning audio commentary, if you want some from us thats fine, what exactly would that process involve ?

Are the captures enchanted in any way?
As in captured with anti-aliasing, maybe super sampling if multi sampling was not possible, and such...

There's stuff I don't like on there, but that will always be the way. And the demos I was thinking "shit they forgot..." turned up at the bottom of the list so I'll give it full approval :)

Oh yeah, forgot to mention audio commentary. :) Concerning it, we'll contact you about it when we seek out groups for emailing out the permission forms. If you want to be a group contact or suggest another, submit a comment on the page with your/their email address.

Yeah, the playlist looks awesome, no criticism on that. Looking forward to the release! :).

@xernobyl: All captured were done with 16xqq anti-aliasing at as high a res as possible (1920x1080 or 1920x1200) and then resampled with a 64-tap "sinc" resize down to 1280x720. So they do look pretty damn awesome (anywhere from 16x to 256x antialiasing depending on what math you choose to believe ;-)

For the demos that couldn't do that, I used integral cropping/resizing (for example, to turn 800x600 Iconoclast into 1280x720 widescreen) so even the older stuff shouldn't look too bad. And all are 59.94fps of course.

Sweet!
But im a bit annoyed that the audio commentary wont be on the dvd-version, since i have NO intentions to buy a bluray player anytime soon.

Too bad. Blu-ray kicks ass.

trixer: didn't you try hacking the to get higher res? In most cases just searching for 800 and a nearby 600 and replacing them with your res with an hex editor works fine.

It's a shame you do NTSC DVD. PAL has a higher resolution and better colors.

great. i want the BD now. if you have any trouble with debris, we will provide a "non official final".

actually, audio commentary (assuming we have it) probably will be on the dvd as well. so let me add "*" next to the others to clarify.

Wow, I think you nailed the playlist pretty damn well! Both best & most interesting demos of 00's, so to say. The set division is a nice idea, too.

I would have included something from Loopit (http://www.pouet.net/groups.php?which=2126). Nice playlist, anyway...

I hope the version of aether captured doesn't have the following:

1) creature at the end glowing all the time bright white.
2) almost no snow in most scenes.

if either or both is happening, you've got it wrong.

Playlist looks fucking nice. Glad Passing by Still's on there; I'm fond of that one.

Wait... doesn't using a sinc filter for images produce ringing artefacts? But ok, 64 taps with a good windowing function are probably good enough. ;)

uncle-x: haha.. do you know how many days trixter and i spent arguing whether or not the end part of aether should have glow? we finally came to the conclusion that it behaves differently each time it runs. but trixter insisted it should have glow at the end, so... we'll probably send you some video clips to verify what's "right" or "wrong". or if you have a reference video, we can use that.
