Dreamcast demos

category: general [glöplog]

I have transfered Variance by Haujobb and Delicious by Yodel and watching them in a real Dreamcast a friend has borrowed me. They were CD images, I burned them with Disc Juggler, Mode 2 CD-XA and they worked fine. How about the 256b or 4kb intros though? Can I burn the files at the same way? I am afraid to waste more CDs and also wondered if I can burn many diferrent demos or at least the tiny intros at the same CD and have a file selector to load and run them under Dreamcast?

the easiest for small demos is to pick up some "coder cable" ... you can then upload the binaries (not the isos) to run them on the machine.

alternatively yeah, i think some kind of file manager boot image exists, look at dreamcast emulation sites.

Well first: A Blank CD-R is approx 50ct nowadays. So you can't really talk about "WASTE" there. Really..

Second: I think the best Demo on DC is that VARIANCE. And even this one is not a veeeery good Demo. It's nice but well...

Consoles are not good for Demos. :/

My favorite one is Delicious.

well, there ARE only like two (the aforementioned) demos for the dreamcast.

and uh, "...", it's not just linux-alike, it's linux. oh and there's some bsd too. funny shit, really.

but yeah, optimus, there is some kind of menu system. just can't remember what it's called. all i know is that i've used it.

oh and that haujobb demo is fucking terrible :)
rm: your mother is fucking terrible ;)

but feel free to motivate us to do something better for the dreamcast :)

I happen to like both Delicious and Variance, and one of the reasons I was quite pleased with my Dreamcast was the fact that I could see them "fo' real" on it for a change :)

As for "Consoles are not good for demos"... I dunno... At least you know what you're developing for, and it's unlikely to change in the future.

Kind of like a C64 with annoying gamepads :)

I never tried .sbi-files but it appears to be what you're after:

I don't suppose there were ever any NTSC fixes for the Haujobb demos? I liked what parts RAN in NTSC ... but couldn't see it all. Course I never tried on a vgabox, I should do that...

as for OS's, NetBSD is still the only real OS available for it. the Linsux derivative never really worked. (Yes, I tried.)
strange really, i tried the linux thing as well and uh, it DID work...
