Drakensang is made by RadonLabs: http://www.radonlabs.de/ Staff count: 90+ (it says so on website). The engine is open source (Nebula).

With 90+ guys working on the engine, they'd probably just have an endless amounts of meetings to finally decide that their way of rotating the cube should be decided to be the correct one.
And that would result in sub halfbitcheese quality cube rotation.
...actually, whole studio is 90+ people. And they probably work on more than one project at a time. I'd guess only three or so are working on the cubes!
