Uzebox - new demoplatform like C64DTV???
category: general [glöplog]
Hello.
I found new retro computer-like Atmel project on internet...
- C language as programing language
- 2xchips /Atmel and NTSC2RGB/
- 240x224x256colors
- 3channels sound
- 2xNES gameports
Soon maybe SD-CARDs and more infos on www.
Check it out:

do some more googling and you'll find a couple dozen similar projects
if anyone wants to do a demo for it, i don't object, but i fail to see the challenge personally

hmm, the thing seems decent and clean, but automatically also very straight forward because it's nothing new. anyone with some electronics experience and buy an atmel plus all the obvious in/out components for audiovideo and link them up. the more decent atmels have all the support for those things built-in.
(no kidding, atmels are actually really cool).
as such, what's much nicer imho is that atmels and the obvious peripherals could be used to do coding on unconventional hardware. i don't know, make music with the microwave's "ping!". code realtime effects on LED scrollers. do disco with elevator button backlights. make a 128x128 board of little lights/leds and demo away. do traffic lights. etcetera.

skrebbel will rule wild compos for the next couple of years
no i won't, i'm a lazy fuck. and because quisten told me to finish things i start, none of my newer ideas are going to get realised any time soon.
damn :) you have good ideas! i always dug the demo-on-your-car-radio creativity
well i really hope that someone who's actually going to do these kinds of hardware hacks actually has better ideas than the obvious list i just pooped out :)
Havoc: Where do you still see a challenge in doing demos? A smaller microcontroller?
There's no challenge if you're not coding blindfolded. (or tied and with your fingers' maimed by a number of hammer hits)
calexico, i'm a sucker for platforms with tradition
Ok, here is a real challenge:
Code a demo for the RCA Studio II.
http://studio2.classicgaming.gamespy.com/techinfo.htm
Why? Because it has one of the most bizarre CPUs you can find, the cosmac 1802

hm, must locate machine...

Ahh... boys.
I like it.I think it will be awesome DIY platform...
Well Debris will be not on it.But retro demos...
WHY NOT???
C language...

Just buy a pandora.
...if it ever comes out.
calexico, sounds like a cool console, but i'm more keen on (home)computers. preferably a bit more recent, as in, 80s/early 90s. think sharp x68000, msx turbo-r, sinclair ql, next, philips yes... but those machines are sadly not so easy to get, and i've still got an apricot in the closet waiting to be explored before i get round to those others :)
it looks kinda cool but i wouldn't feel like going through the trouble of having to build one.
I'm a sucker for platforms with nostalgia.

thats great tinctu. Go make a demo about it!
Yeah I will try make demo on it... not about it...
looks like a fun little thing. i'd probably try to build one and make a demo for it if i didn't have so many demos to make already.
Hey guys, The Uzebox project is going full speed with a PCB version coming out very soon. For that we are trying to build some demos for it and I was looking for music artists willing to share some of their stuff. Anybody has some great techno tunes I could use? Or know who would?
The PCb designer has done a quick intro for it, but without music its a bit thin.

Hmm,
I'm having some flashbacks ;) But could be a fun project to work on, you have any more info Uze?
Quote:
4 channels wavetable, 8-bit mono, mixed at ~15Khz and output via PWM
