Why exemusic is missing from pouet?

category: general [glöplog]
Could someone explain why "concerts at demoparties" are added to Pouet while serious exemusic prods aren't ?
Thank you!

Maybe because in order to have something represented on Pouet you need to be able to take a screenshot?

just take an image from the random image thread :D
and no you don't technically have to add a screen shot when submitting a prod
Because if we add exemusic we have to add normal music as well, and mp3s! and xms! and mods! and it will become a big fucking mess.

http://demozoo.org/ indexes music although virtually none has been added, I'm sure gasman would add an exe music category.

it's already a mess because of all the 4k gfx...

pohar: what okkie said

gargaj: yes, all of the properly catalogued half a dozen executable 4k gfx compos entries came out and ruined the fun for everyone, lets add shitloads of music entries to compensate! by all means, implement it on that promised v2.0, till then i'd rather personally not.

To be honest, if and when Pouet 2.0 becomes reality, I don't think adding music entries is a bad idea at all, provided it's feasible. The ability of getting a complete party releases from a single page and the ability to comment on tunes would be ace. The same thing goes for graphics entries.

Couldn't agree more. Before I'd been to a party I basically wasn't aware of the scope of graphics and music compos and just how much stuff gets released. Adding this stuff to pouet though would require indexing on nicks, not groups though.
but if pouet dont want to have this stuff. perhabs someone can make a site that works kinda like pouet (and shares username perhabs?) for the rest of the scenereleases.

and csdb has all demos, gfx and music for c64 without becomming a mess...

Indeed.

If those tiny exe files produce graphics, music, urine or whatever, just submit them in the proper size category and that's it.

At some point we have to stop categorizing things or else it defeats the purpose of having categories at all (animated 4k, 4k rendered gfx, realtime 4k, half animated 4k, 4k with animations but without sound, 4k with sound but without animation, etc...).

Keops, I agree with you to an extent, but I personally think a good point at which to stop categorizing is at the same granularity as competitions themselves.

proteque: demozoo is what describe.
we can add that, when pouet supports the "credits" system - showing who created what on which demo

uhh... isn't the 'musicdisk' category pretty much exactly the same thing as 'exemusic'? I guess musicdisk implies more than one track, but other than that they are the same thing, no?
alienus: no. Music disk is a bunch of songs with an interface, exe music is an executable which plays a song (usually with a softsynth).

So that only really means that a "tag" system is in order, instead of a "category" one. With predefined tags, of course.

I think music needs a different type of presentation from the standard pouet style. a player/radio in the browser for music. For graphics, a more rapid fire viewer instead of one image per page.

loaderror : exactly.

Wouldn't hurt to have a website dedicated to that instead of having a huge mess on a single one.

I would certainly be dissapointed to see the images of the random thread having room in this site and not 4k gfx or exe music prods.

ialso, there are arround 35 production categories already and many of them don't make that much sense (imho)... two more categories woult not hurt i guess...?

what loaderror said : the current pouet isn't made to show music prods.

The thing great about pouet is the simplicity and minimalism. Add a lot more stuff and it becomes like last.fm, good in a way but vastly overcomplicated (I really preferred it in the audioscrobbler days).

I would be perfectly happy with a download link that would link to scene.org or whereever and then download it for me to play in winmap or cog.

The downside is that I can only imagine the rush of the scene music history archives here.. it would be a nightmare to classify and maintain all the gazillion songs.

on the other hand exe music is kind of an exception, exe tunes are relative to intros and are rather few so they won't hurt pouet, even without any screenshot :p
