webdesigner / programmer needed [payed work]

category: general [glöplog]

hi!

i need to re-design my site [www.xerxes-music.com]
hence i need someone who knows their shit, and what better place to look than on the demoscene. i will pay handsomely if the right person comes along. i have a 155 mbit ftp site + lots of storage all setup.. the person for the job needs to know how to implement a simple webshop, as i need to sell my DVD there + digital releases.

if interested, let me know. i think the job will pay around 1000 euro.. perhaps more if the workload gets out of hand.

thanks for your time, and cheers!

1000 euros is not much for a job of this size.

Why not simply implement a Joomla site with a specially designed template? Might save you some bucks, too, as it's pretty easy to set up on your own.

Just a suggestion...
I was about to say the same klaus, joomla is really a nice&easy to use CMS on which yo ucan install tons of module (i.e. virtuemart to include a shop), just get a good friend able to make a nice design and here you are!

(btw, HI KLAUS!)
sent you an eMail ^^

Damn, I should have done the same. ;)

yeah, i have no problem using joomla or whatever templates gets the job done :) all i need is a good designer.

please keep the emails coming, as i need to see references before deciding on who i would like to use. perhaps 1000 euro isn't all that much from a commercial side of it, but for a poor musician like myself, it's about as much as i can pay :)

cheers

and so it hardcoding everything from scratch.

actually, since getting used to admin'ing pouet, i think i prefer coding from scratch.. figuring out all the classes bullshit from php modules is quite a bitch.
and the "easy to install" part is always dubious. then again i never used jomla so maybe it truly is the best thing ever since sliced bread with onions and sugarcubes.

there's quite a big difference between making a website like pouet with lots of "special" features, or a home page with a web shop and a cms.

imho, using standard components is often dubious because they're never perfectly documented and never do it *exactly* the way you'd want it done, but i've learned to not underestimate the time it'd take to fix the mistakes that i *won't* make because the makers of the component already made and fixed them. i've used CakePHP for a few projects recently, and even though i now think that Cake is a piece of horrible poo, i'm pretty sure that what i would have incrementally cooked up in its place would be an equally bad piece of horrible poo, but with more bugs (that would come up only after a year of use because they're all seldomly occuring situations). therefore, i made the right choice.

using components is always code-reading and code-glueing hell, but from a certain point onwards it's still very time saving, especially because of the big user base and use contributed software (that also generally sucks, so you have to improve it, but that's still a lot easier than thinking them up from scratch)

Besides, mostly a website is depending on usability and NOT whether it's coded the right way or not.
So, in a web 2.0 environment, well-tested components that have a large user base and vital, breating user communities are the preferable way to go. But yeah, you most likely lose the customization bit - you win some, you lose some!
i've done 2 cms systems for univ projects from scratch. recently hacked a few functionalities into an online shop module thing. the online shop module thing was a fucking nightmare, repeating same code shitloads of places, accessing different databases with same info, it instantly built my complete hatred to the mear concept of using php modules for anything.

also, when was the last time you found anything resembling an off the shelf php module for a shopping cart system, or phpbb forum even, that wasnt filled with bugs and small annoying quirks? i quite prefer patching my own code instead of improving someones elses glued hack. :S not that im any expert in php stuff but still..

oh, you sure have a point, and i must admit i never closely looked into webshop systems, specifically. i guess there's also large differences in gluehackery-levels between various components. smarty for instance, besides being mostly obsolete, and is a great example of a well done and very-few-quirks-having php component. but i admit that quality decreases as the components become less low-level (i.e. plenty well made template engines and db components, fewer well made blog plugins and catalog systems)

well.. damnit. the guy who was working on this bailed out. i payed him 500 euro, and he did some work and ran, which leaves me with nothing. oh well..

anyone else interested in designing xerxes-music.com ? there will be NO webshop, just a very simple but clean design.. preferably in flash.

let me know if you want the job, and we`ll agree payment. my contact mail is xerxes _at_ xerxes-music.com

No.. no.. why? :(
Flash websites are the devil. Do the *website* in html, and implement a *player* for your tracks in flash if you want one. If you need a reason why, look the the catastrofuck that is beatport.com.

(But please do implement your website in flash if you hate blind people).
