Gloom: I wouldn't normally do it, but too hard to resist. :)
jooooy..
i made a quick mention of blockparty at my 8-bit demoshow at the blip festival last weekend.. i even met a guy there who went (jonbro).. and yes, the website design is increasingly badass. if possible, i'm looking to go again, and/or get involved in one or two superleet compo entries.
uh, i don't see the "wtf" resemblance at all. what's with the big pic on the website tho, is nullsleep that big a celeb? (oh wait, i just found out last friday :)

This is going to be fun :)
/me gets the popcorns
Doubtful, dubmood says it all the time without anything fun happening.
Sweetness! Can't wait until the party, I'm hoping to up my contribution from 2007's. Hopefully there are enough entries to separate into 64k+/- demo compos. A fast-tro demo compo with a theme would be a pretty nice addition too (even if no prizes), and if there aren't enough entries, we could always merge it into the main compo.
I assume a PSP or TI-8x demo for example would participate in the Wildcard compo like last year?
Will we still be using partymeister? It seems the voting system will change since we vote on top 4 and not all.
There is one point I _strongly_ disagree with though:
"Ballots of jurors carry five times the significance of a guest in the competition they juried." If we're voting on top 4 instead of all entries, and the number of voters is anything like last year, that could seriously upset the entire results. I'd rather not place that much power in the hands of a single voter.
There is another point I disagree with, and that is the 16meg demo limit. With high-quality textures, models, music, data, sizes go up real fast. Although I doubt an entry will actually exceed this, I don't think it is right to disqualify an entry based off of this (unless of course it's just a video player or something of the like).
Anyways, I love the site design, and I can't wait to go! I'll see if I can drag some friends along. Oh, and if anyone in the Columbus region needs a ride (I know, it's not very far), we can work something out.
Btw, how do I redeem my "free" ticket? :-)

nezbie has some good points imo; i don't see the point of giving some jury more voting power. preselection and stuff, alas, but what's the point with jury voting on such a small party? get all of notacon in there and make them feel significant man! maybe they're not sceners, but they're geeks enough to feel the vibe, or so it seems when i read the notacon site.
if you're afraid of voters without a clue (of technical limits, for instance), one thing you could also do (and would maybe be cool anyway, especially when you're on a place like notacon) is let every competitor have a small speech about what they made (if they want to), where they can explain a bit about what's going on. granted, it gives the compo a bit less of a compo atmosphere and more of a seminar appeal, but maybe that's just only good in your case!
just an idea, do with it whatever you like :)
all in all, good luck with the party, guys! and may there be many blockparties to come!

good luck with the party! how is the supply/demand ratio for demoparties over there? do you expect there to be a lot of people?
That jury rule about 5x votes was in the rules last year as well; we ended up not having the jury vote, actually, just provide the other functions. That rule also dates back to Pilgrimage, and as I recall was in there not to prevent votes but to give incentive to people to be jurists, which can be a very tedious job. I think we'll remove the 5x rule and will mark it as such.
All of the attendees of Notacon/Blockparty can vote, just like last year.
Golden ticket recipients should contact blockparty so we can arrange your passage into Notacon/Blockparty.

oh man, am I excited or what! am working on a prod for this year, we will see how it goes.
Half-topic: how much does a cheap plane ticket costs there to fly beetween 3 or 4 states?
Do you have low cost airlines there?
I have no idea how that works there.

yeah, there are cheap airlines, and if you get it enough in advance you can fly for pretty cheap. I went from PGH to california last year (2500 miles) for $100 each way. I don't know about Cleveland airport options, but I imagine there are some.
what's PGH?
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
jonbro, sweet! Looking forward to it :-)
xernobyl, there's also Greyhound which is pretty cheap but it naturally takes a long time.

I took the Greyhound two Pilgrimage two years. 24 hours on a bus is an intense experience. Be sure to bring ear plugs, a pillow, and something to cover your eyes so you can get some sleep. Other than that, it's fine. Amtrak is much, much nicer if you are lucky enough to have a route nearby. I know they have a station in Cleveland: http://www.amtrak.com/pdf/national.pdf

Nigga please!
I don't think that's worth €100~$67 (cheap coin you have :) the of diference.
yay the blox r back! i'll have to get my ass down there this time!
We did a ~12h bus trip from Warsawa to Tallinn for Assembly 2004 once, I thought it was fun 1) once the bus showed up (an hour late) and 2) once we got on back on asphalt roads eventually (there was this point where we would wake up to this huge shaking in the bus and we'd look out and we'd be going in the middle of the forest, and then we'd stop in some village at midnight, one of the busdrivers would hop out the seat, go out, find someone, talk to him, then get back behind the wheel, take a 180 and go somewhere other way :D )
If I knew I was going to do something like that I would have to be 3 days without sleeping first (maybe coding a demo).
what skrebbel said would be great at any euro demoparty too :)
