sundown is coming soon! only four weeks left!!!
category: general [glöplog]
now in it's third year, sundown is steadily building itself an excellent reputation as the uk's largest demo party. so far it has produced a world's first ( gasman's ipod demo ) and two scene.org awards ( four nominations in total ). we hope and expect that this year will be just as fruitful!

we are expecting over 50 visitors ( see http://sundowndemoparty.org/faq.php ) this year but we still have room for more. the organisers are committed to making it as easy as possible for visitors ( local and international ) to attend. here's some blurb copy+pasted from the main site to try and entice all you potential last minute visitors:
--------------------
Sundown 2007 is a the UK's only all demoscene party based in Budleigh Salterton in Devon, South-West England.
The event will take place from Friday September 7th until Sunday 9th September.
The entrance fee is £30 for UK Visitors, and £15 for international visitors (it's cheaper for them because of the travel costs).
We have a maximum seating capacity of around 100, and currently have around 52 visitors. If you plan to come, please let us know, either e-mail rc55 at rc55 dot com or post in the forums. :)
This year we are offering a car pooling shuttle service from international airports thanks to uksceners. Spaces are limited - collection is currently available from Luton, Stansted, Heathrow and Bristol Airports, also they will be collecting from Bristol Temple Meads train station, more airports may become available over time - so sign up to the forums and look at the Car Pool and Travel Information forums.
As per last year we will also be shuttling and assisting greatly travellers who arrive at Exeter Airport. More information is available from the travel page.
We definitely encourage you to bring your own computer equipment, and anything interesting and obscure too.

Yes! Sundown makes it easier to sabotage your opponents' demos than ever before!(tm)
and lets just bump this, GET YOUR ASSES TO SUNDOWN!
Did we OFFEND him? How?
I didn't offend him. Well... I only paid attention to his seminar when he was showing his holiday pics, taken from the International Space Station, then I ignored him to work on a prod while he was talking about Ubuntu.
Perhaps Meaty offended him. Afterwards. In the gents' toilets.

WAHEY! 3 weeks to go isnt it? or is it 4? .... damn too long! Be there! WOO! Fish and chips, booze, beach, pasties, astronauts, cider! YARR!
Lies! Not four weeks, not four days, but four hours!
we want a new Fairlight intro! we want a new Fairlight intro! we want a new Fairlight intro! we want a new Fairlight intro!... did i mention that it would be really nice with a new Fairlight intro from Smash, Reed, Oyiseer, Kusta and all the other in their family!
you might be waiting a while. :) (like.. forever)
"forever" is too long...
See Top Gear season 3, episode 3, for a brief introduction of Budleigh Salterton.
maybe we'll reform in 10 years and do a reunion tour like pink floyd or something :)
seriously though, i cant remember if i mentioned it at the time we quit (a year ago) but there's just no reason or motivation to do a new 64k, for the following reasons:
- reed quit doing scene music at all, so we'd have to "break in" a new musician, which sucks. and they've have to get good at the synth, which precisely one person (reed) knows how to use well :) .
- its a fucking lot of effort doing a 64k, it takes months, and a lot of that time is very painful (working on tools, using the home made tools, size compressing, cutting stuff down, trying to make use of 1 piece of code in 100 ways), unlike making a demo where one can code big (codesize-wise) effects and make stuff in lightwave. doing demos, where you dont give a shit about code size and just concentrate on how it looks, it's fun. :)
- you know we'd only do something "street" with graffiti in and get a ton of abuse for it on pouet (i.e. not worth the effort) :)
- i actually do get ideas sometimes for doing new stuff in 64k. but <arrogant mode> nobody else come along and kicked our asses. if somebody came along and made a 64k that blew ours away technically, it might be enough motivation to go and kick theirs in return. </arrogant mode> (but now you know how to get us to come back :) )

Besides, it's impossible to do ribbons in 64k!
