TEH FLASH DEMO - SCENE
category: general [glöplog]
i don't
is there a single intro on that site not using copyrighted music ?
that is just so sad.
OMG
Flashing is illegal in Canada.
Hm. Wonder if this is serious? I can do Flash too, but never even thought of making a "demo". Flash is a web tool.
is c(++) a demo tool?
or assembly?
or opengl, or d3d?
or java?
i don't think so. so demoing is not about tools, it's about producing good stuff. Yep, theoretically you can do demos in flash too... unfortunately most tries has failed so far. :(
but that's a different story...

crazy
where is the html-demoscene? there is <BLINK> you know...
In a flash (hopefully) they where gone...(flash demos that is)
I found Melon Dezign's "Flash demo" more interesting than 99% of the demos that are in Pouet. Well, Melon Dezign has always produced excellent stuff, no matter what platform they have used.
violator: there is DHTML and JavaScript too. I've done some vectorball stuff in JavaScript for my site (which i don't have up yet) and a scroller using a 40x8 table for "screen" (each cell=a pixel =). DHTML, in theory, let you do many things. Practically, however, is too slow for non-static gfx (f.e. the scroller was slow, the vector balls were a bit fast - they used static <DIV><IMG></DIV>s).
Anyway, flash demos are not real demos, at my opinion, except if they're made fully using a SWF ActionScript editor, since a real demo is a coder demo. However, they're nice to watch :-)

badsector - "However, they're nice to watch :-)"
i disagree wholeheartedly:

if it's done with style, then it's cool.
features required in teh flash demo - scene:
* ripped music
* at least three or four 5-polygon objects
* crappy transmissions and no sync at all
* general boring stuff
I don't remember the exact size (around 480KB), but making something in flash and calling it an "INTRO" is just way stupid.

I don't have anything against flash (except it's bloating the web to hell).
Melon Dezin's flash-demo rocks.

unfortunately it's not quite active, and mainly a coders scene, but I have far more respect toward it than toward the wannabe flash demo-scene at http://scene.dem.ru/demo.php (OMG)
irvin! Melon's flash "demo" is done at 99% with some vectorized scenes imported from lightwave so IMHO the WOW effect of this prod has nothing to do with flash but with Alex's imagination and designs.
However, Flash is a nice tool, I'm just eager to see some people using it correctly to make some demos.

ok, let's try to make this 100th post usefull.
Flasm is an assembler/disassembler of flash actionscript bytecode that could bring out some interresting things in the flash demo-scene.
sorry for multiple post.

NO1:
"I found Melon Dezign's "Flash demo" more interesting than 99% of the demos that are in Pouet. Well, Melon Dezign has always produced excellent stuff, no matter what platform they have used."
could agree about melon but what do you know when you seen maybe 10% of pouet's demos.. that flash thang is ok but nothing to rave about.
for me Flash is a tool like 3DSmax or Photoshop
it export .swf files like 3DSmax export .3ds like Photoshop export .PNG
making a scene replayer for a .3ds file is the same to make a replayer for your .swf file or PNG file or MP3 file....
it's not Flash©, it's .swf replayed in realtime with your own code wich is interesting to learn.
.swf is a source file not a demo
and if you want to see a demo wich mixxed lots of usual source files and .swf source files, take a look to this one - it use a own scene replayer for swf files like own replayer for 3ds files etc .... you understand ?

4mb for _that_? gee
God that thing is awful.
the blue lines effect reminded me some traction demos -.-"
