well, I think its good trip-hop is dead (or rather "evolved") so we can have good music that nobody relates it to hip-hop ;)

Olspookishmagus: any genre is acceptable. What matters is what you will manage to do with it in the end, bringing an interesting visual experience and atmosphere with it (or not). There are no rules.

Fortunately, demoscene is not all about high frequency chiptunes and eurotrance softsynth tunes.

More than that, it's a good thing to try other genres than the usual demoscene clichés.

Live evil (http://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=297) is a pretty good example for alternative music (in a good direction!) with excellent execution. I wish there were more demos like that.

Try some good electronica. Or some real 8-bit trash (also suprisingly rare).

traditionally hip hop has been the music of the street and ghetto's
and a way out financially for its rapper stars
it is the voice of the street

now that hip hop has progressed through the years and seen some profitable new stars then it is not surprising now that high budget productions are appearing, sometimes drug financed.

i am surprise that such high spec productions have not appeared more in the demoscene, perhaps this is because of the nature of tdigital adudio and tracker restrictions reducing raster output ontop of the vector instrumentals
Perhaps also that the scene has always stayed modular deficiant in interfacing with ghetto type musicians..

a procuction featuring rap would make me want to see it more than most productions, being that i was once in the ghetto and started with nothing...even though i am now a millionaire in my 30's i still have a strong connection with the ghetto and all that its music stands for

melon, uprough have used hiphop soundtracks. Considering a certain closeness to graffiti.culture, it's a rather natural - if too rarely done - fit.

I like both cultures so much I know it's a bad idea to try to mix them up. Nothing good will come out of this. It's like chocolate and mayonnaise : I enjoy both separately, but the mix makes me puke. Bon appetit !

The famous Assembly 13th invitation by Moppi feature the most efficient scene trip-hop theme.
Gerbera by Moppi works pretty good at it too.

hiphop, not like techno or dnb is a true DIY-culture, so it resembles the demoscene more than most house-purist here would like to admit. Its about breakdancing, turntablism, graffiti and other forms of expression. Just as wide as the demoscene is with it's blending of technics.

Yesterday thought of doing a nederhop demo maybe one day. Ah well. All thoughts, no action in that genre yet.

ok someone mentioned electronica.. that person can't be taken seriously in a thread about music.

considering you only have so much time on your hands, if you're good at this shit and had to choose between doing it for a living (professional stuff that you get paid for) or for the demoscene (amateur stuff that you don't get paid for), it's a clear cut case at least in my eyes.

this is the reason for a vast amount of talented people quitting the scene - or rather, maintaining the interest in it but quitting producing. the ever rising average age of sceners is a factor too, obviously people had more time and less professional interests when they were 15.
