xbox360 has been cracked!

category: general [glöplog]
the Xtreme firmware is supposed to be fully working for every xbox 360 and has been publicly released :)

from the ReadMe.txt:

"Now you guys will have to get homebrew running.
Next on the list will be the PS3 and this one will be done much quicker (once it comes out!)

Commodore4Eva"

so guys it's time for homemade DEMOS on xbox 360 \o/ and for a new x360 icon on pouet ;)

Wow, only just about a hojillion more security hurdles to clear before you can actually do something on the thing.

It's not going to happen just yet. Curb your excitement.

This hack is only for booting "backups", it's still not possible to run unsigned code, so no homebrew possible yet.

ah indeed :/ sorry i was too quick to rejoice at it...

and to be more precise this is a hacked firmware for the Toshiba/Samsung TS-H943 DVD Drive, there is none for the Hitachi yet.

am I the only one here who has access to a real xbox 360 dev kit and is not going to do anything about it anyhow ? :-)

No, PC AT clone manufacturers killed above mentioned computers by keeping a really low price.

Are you playing tupid or are you stupid?
Toshiba, Dell, Hewlett-Packard, Packard-Bell, bla bla I don't care, you get the point.
The above mentioned machines were dead (to your standards) years before DualCORE was released.

I admit being totally clueless about console hacking. Therefore please don't mind me asking this (obvious) question: Is it possible to sign one's code and thus run it with this firmware hack?

Adok: if you somehow find out the private key that MS use for signing, of course.

Which means: NO. Unless you a) reverse engineer the Xbox's firmware, get the public key and try to calculate the private one from it (which will probably take way longer than you live) or b) break into MS' Redmond headquarters and somehow steal it.

Adok: Given time, patience, logic, luck, and a willingness to spend a lot of time debugging, more than likely. Items one and two are probably the biggest factors.

Personally, I'm not that excited about anything dealing with the 360. I have other toys.
KTHXBY: That's exploiting the box to run unsigned binaries, not signing your own ;)

the company I work for got me one. It looks nice (more like an enlogated xbox360. Not as big as the PS2 TOOL (which I also had some time ago, god I hated that machine).

The kit has some 'developers' samples showing off effects made in early 2001 (on some geforce 2 probably), and the code is completely unreadable. So what is the point ?

Tomorrow I'll see if I can write some d3d stuff for it.

kb: I fail to see where additional time and patience, luck, logic, and more debugging wouldn't produce something, given sufficient amounts of each.

I am, however, an optimist.
