Any sharp X68000/X68030 demoscene around?
category: general [glöplog]
The X68000 series was quite widespread in Japan. But only released there.
It was quite a nice Machine. 68060 and Coldfire expansions exist and a big whole lot of games. But is there something Demoscene on it? I couldnt find out on most Japanese sites :(
I think this is quite a nice machine...here some specs:
The first X68000 in 1987:
68000 with 10Mhz & 1MB Ram
Capable of displaying 32000 colours at once in 256x256
FM + 1x8bit PCM

Yes, just name it: Its better than an Amiga of that time. How ironic.
ha! X68000 - the final and utter proof the amiga vs. atari "war" was completely pointless!
there's no such thing as a demoscene on X68000, though some cracktro-alike prods do exist (but none of high quality, or i haven't seen them yet). the coolest stuff i've found were some homegrown games of (near-)commercial quality... but as everything else X68000, it's all 100% japanese :-(
btw, if anyone is travelling to japan (tokyo area preferably) any time soon, and has some kilos left in their luggage allowance they're willing to borrow or rent to me for a certain small but heavy black box... please give me a shout! :-)

Sign me up too.
I asked friends in Japan, they told me the X68000 was a widespread gaming machine. A cracking scene existed through many Arcade-conversions. I once saw a stack of Games which was big as a wall, all different ones...even some games like Xevious and ofcourse Outrun was converted almost 100% from the arcade.
I'm still asking friends to send me one.
A good place to get Hard and software for this machine is:
auctions.yahoo.co.jp
If somone wants a x68000 too, can try to ICQ me at 40477417. The price for such a machine my shipping is somewhat between 150-200 euro with packging from japan. Typical with a box or two of 5,25 HD 1,2MB disks. (Very typical format)...
I have friends there who might arrange it, since most people in auctions dont send overseas....

that's cheaper than i can get it for including shipping.. but still not a price i could afford inmediatly :/ but perhaps if i save up some more cash for the hobby... who knows :)
btw, is there any email where i could contact you once i've got some more funds? icq would require extra software, and i'm a lazy man ;)

The x68k was one of the best of the 16/32 hybrids. It had specs that were as close the arcade machines of it's time as anything and had great ports. However, being a Japan-only system, it had no demoscene: the Japanese seem to be ignorant of the whole scene thing. Systems like the MSX, were released in Europe where there was a decent scene, but in Japan, there was NOTHING doing in Japan. I guess Japanese nerds are too busy doing cosplay and writing doujin comics to be bothered with demo coding. Also, the "language" of the scene tends to be English and the Japanese don't exactly speak English as well as the average German or Sweede...

madcrow: Yes. The main reasons to buy this machine were 1. To play arcade Games. 2. To make coloured CG-covers for Doujin magazines. =D

"please help make KOOL DEMO-SHOCK to japanese brain"
I was asking for people if they know any "sceners" or at least users of this machine. Actualy i dont know enough japanese people to show it to them. PC doensn't rule all the time =)
