The Gathering 2005 (yeah, I'm not easily deterred)

category: general [glöplog]
Yep yep yep, bring on the trolls and the flaming.

As some of you know, I'm one of the organizers of The Gathering and as usual we would like to see more demosceners at TG 2005 (23rd to the 28th of March - yep, half-collides with Breakpoint, as usual).

Next year, we are looking into maybe doing a deal with SAS for sceners wanting to travel to The Gathering, so that a roundtrip from Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Germany, The Netherlands etc. will be quite cheap. This fare will include entry to the party, of course.

All I'm wondering is if this will mean anything to any of you, or if I should just stop working on the deal with SAS.

An alternative could be to make a program so that you can travel from, say Finland, stay at TG for two days then travel to Breakpoint.

Well, I'm not expecting much from this thread (it's Pouet after all), so bring on the "BASS!!!!!111" and trolling. However, if any of you actuall would like to bring something constructive to the debate, it would be nice. :)

hmm, 43 finns has already booked their ryanair tickets, so there's no much hope in this country.

gloom: why dont you just get a bustrip deal to include travelling to bingen to whoever wants to go to the gathering and have the scene compos on the first days? i bet more foreigner ppl would go to tg then...

I dont want to go to TG anymore due to alot of annoying gamers and democompetition organizers that acts childish and are very biased towards productions they have been involved with.

No more TG, no more TP.

I rather spend qualitytime at Breakpoint.

zplex: I'm trying not to take the bait here, but how long has it been since you've been at TG? The last five years both the democrew and the rest of the organizers have been as unbiased as anyone could hope for. If there is any special incident you are refering to, please feel free to email me privately.

ps: That's actually a good suggestion, however I don't feel it would sit well with the norwegian sceners..

please feel free to email me privately

Why privately? We want to know if TG compos are biased ;)

keops: of course they're not biased! I've gotten my welldeserved cash every year..
sorry, but i prefer a 100% scene event over a gamers-infested party.

Considering the facts that..

1) I don't have too much money to travel to multiple parties/pay for multiple entrances
2) I probably only have one (almost :)) finished production anyway
3) BP and TG collide

.. there's no way I'll choose TG over BP. Sorry.

Hooray for party organizers with brains (read: Hooray for gloom)!

Leia has done it before, it is possible. If I wouldn't be scamp's personal party slave I actually would thought about that one. ;)

Actually gloom cares about the scene, it's an unfair comparism.

Oh and gloom, I really hope to see you after christmas. :)
gloom: i dont think my budget allows attending but hey, i think i'll possibly (likely, even) wrap up some remote entries if possible :)

madenmann: I didn't like that TG/TP-comparison either. :)

gargaj: Remote entries are allowed (and encouraged :)

so we'd have a big democompo at tg with no sceners, and a load of sceners at bp but no demos (cos they all went to bp but sent the demos to tg to try and win the money)? =)

if affordable, i'd surely try a TG/BP roundtrip from holland. never seen TG, would like to.

Smash.. take pantaloon with you and come to TG this year!!
I vote for moving TG to another weekend. I do want to show up to TG sometime, but you just have it on altogether the wrong weekend.

And no, moving it to the weekend of Assembly is NOT a good idea.
sir garbagetruck: The thing with TG is that it isn't a weekend party. It "takes advantage" of the easter holiday for two more days of party goodness. If it was just a weekend, it would have been moved ages ago, to stop colliding with Mekka/Symposium (and lately; Breakpoint).

If it was entirely up to me, I would have moved it for sure. It's just that when the party has been held at the same time for 12 years, it's a bit of a hard habit to break. Unfortunately.

yeah, but see, it's on the WRONG WEEKEND. No, it won't be easy to move it. Just. Move it.
truck, imho it would've been much easier for breakpoint to move when it replaced mekka. new party, why not a new weekend? i understand it may have something to do with the extremely bad image TG as a demoparty had then, but that surely has improved. just. why move tg instead of bp? i fail to see the difference.

sir richard kbab: Actually, that was we was hoping would happen when Mekka was shut down. Unfortunately the Breakpoint organizers thought differently.. and I can see the logic in filling the same timeslot as the legendary Mekka/Symposium, it's just that it's a bit of a bummer really..

However, it's quite obvious that none of the parties are going to move, so the question then becomes; how do you make more demosceners turn to TG, at least for a duration of the party? Henche; the SAS-idea was born.
