Assembly Online 2020 - 14th to 18th of October
category: parties [glöplog]
The news is out so I thought it would be good to start a new thread for our Assembly Online 2020 extravaganza!
As we all know, there is this covid-19 thing. It unfortunately didn't go away during the summer so we needed to do the hard decision and cancel the physical event scheduled to 15th to 18th of October. However, we just didn't want to cancel it all, so we decided to move online!
The online event will have demoscene competitions, demoshows, some workshops etc. for demosceners. :) There will be also the gaming and e-sports things. As we move online, we also decided to make the event a day longer! So Assembly online 2020 starts already at Wednesday 14th of October!
More information is in our website that will also work as an event hub during the online event!
You can read the official announcement here.

Sh*t, this covid-19 thing got ASM too :/.
Looking forward the online event!
Looking forward the online event!
And one thing I forgot to mention, the event is free of charge! So there will be no tickets required for participating the compos, watching or voting! <3
The e-mail message for ticket buyers hinted that there will be smaller events by co-operating organizations for watching compos. I'm waiting for more information about these. They would encourage to throw some entries in.
(This might have also been a good chance to have a real demo party without gamers, if only those who bring entries had been let in. But it seems this option wasn't chosen.)

You can always organize your own viewing party which can be what ever you like it to be. :) This time we spend our energy to provide you the best experience we can do in online setup.
What comes to the co-operating organizations hosting viewings, we will tell you when we have more information.
@rimina For organizing a small viewing party, it would be nice to have a timetable. Is there something in the making?
@dirtie
Six distinct sites have been announced but they are describes as "LANs" and "game spaces" so I assume they are not highly relevant for sceners (the information is from Assembly's official e-mails sent to ticket buyers).
Instead I have been told, that now it's up to people to organize something. So far, I haven't heard that any scener would organize anything around the capital area.
(according to rumours, Tampere hacklab organises a gathering. I assume it's for their members)
Gaming related sites given in Assemby's e-mail are listed here:

(addition: as you can see, rimina writes above that asm's demoscene department uses its resources to organize an online-event. the rest is up to others)
(sorry about my impulsive not-informative-adding posts. i take some sedatives now)
I am thinking about a remote party in Leipzig/Germany like we did for Solskogen. Watching the demoscene stream, having some beers with local scenes. A demoscene related timetable would be very useful.
Which day will the live acid music compo take place?

This sounds very cool! We will have compos on every event day. The first compos already on Wednesday and the last compoblock will be at Saturday evening (featuring the live acid madness). Results will be published on Sunday. The exact times are still something that we are trying to finalize on this very moment. I hope we get the final schedule out very soon.
And not two posts without the third one! But this time very different topic.
We are looking coders for shader showdown!
We will host a shader showdown tournament on online assembly. The qualification rounds will be on Wednesday evening and the finals on Thursday evening. We try to schedule these not too late but not too early so you have time to get off from work and also have a good night sleep afterwards.
If you'd like to participate contact me (on discord or irc) or havoc or send an email to compo-contact (at) assembly.org.

Regarding the oldskool democompo it would be preferrable that all entries are submitted in binary AND video format. If you're unable to make a proper capture yourself, then please contact me before Sunday 11.10.

Ah yeah. Our web pages were renewed and it seems all the old links broke... I'm sorry for the inconvenience. :(

The acid music compo deadline is extended until Thursday 18:00 CET (19:00 Finnish time)
I've sent in a submission with the online system yesterday, and now I logged in and checked it, "Status" shows as "pending".
Does that mean that I'm supposed to do something more? Or simply that the organizers haven't had time to check it yet?
