            JUKEBOX -- The BIONIX LABS Musicdisk -- V1.2 -- 9/15/93
°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°

Hi all!! This is the first release from BIONIX LABS. We hope you enjoy it.
We tried to test the presentation out on several machines prior to the official
release, but if it does not work on *your* machine, here is some helpful info:

  Requirements:
  * A 386 or higher processor - There are quite a few 386+ instructions!
  * VGA
  * Approximately 406K of free RAM. It need not be in a single block.

The demo will test for these requirements before executing and exit with a
message if they are not found. However, if you *do* have the above
requirements and *still* get the message (or you don't have them and just
think I'm lying) then use the /s option to skip these tests.

  Audio:
  * A SoundBlaster card is recommended, but not required. The plain old
SoundBlaster is the only card supported (i.e. no stereo on SB Pro). Why?
Because that is all I have. (If you *really* want Ultrasound, SB Pro,
etc. you are welcome to send me one... :-)
  * The demo uses XPLAY, a SB DMA modplayer coded by me, Styrac. Xplay started
with an unworking version of Super Pro Play by Josh Jenson. Basically I
added SoundBlaster support and killed the PC speaker routine, optimized
a *lot* of the code, and then rewrote it to use DMA. But many thanks to
    Josh!
  * If the music starts to kinda jump around, then the playback rate is
probably too high for your system. Set the mixing rate with the /m#
switch (i.e. /m16000 would use a mixing speed of 16Khz).
  * BTW the volume control will take about 1 second to take effect, so don't
panic if you go from 15 to 0 and a second later the sound finally goes
    off..
  * The default DMA channel used by the program is channel 1. If yours is
different, use the /d switch. (Anyone know how to autodetect a DMA
    channel?)

If you still can't get the darn thing to work, try getting in touch with
me (Styrac) and I will try to get it running...

Program info:

This production was mostly coded in the last month or so, though the Xplay
routines I did last summer (1992). The whole demo is coded in 100% C++....
hehe...NOT....100% 80x86 assembler (TASM (tm)). The demo runs in VGA mode
..ummmmm (I forget...:-) 640x480x16 (slooooooow!). As the code is not anything
exciting, I tried to put a lot into the design (goin' for the style points!).
I hope you like(d) it.

Misc Stuff:

Personal greetz must go out to (a-z): Butcher/RAZOR, JRRM, LMK, N'astirh,
Scraggs, Shado, and all coders.

As for Bionix Labs, we're running pretty lean when it comes to members. Do you
have talent? Do you not have anything better to do than sit in front of a PC
all day? Yes, you say? Then hey, get in touch with us and jump aboard.
However, if there are any up and coming groups out there (esp. in USA) that
can use a coder like me, I might consider dropping BL. But you better have a
team with potential AND a dedicated graphics artist (I *HATE* doing graphics!)
for me to consider joining. Or maybe BL will be the up and coming USA group...
Who knows?

If anyone just wants to talk coding/demos/weather then feel free to contact
me via snailmail, email, IRC, or news. (And I agree, c.s.i.p.d *is* lame as
hell..) If you have a coding problem and want some help, gimme a call- I might
just be able to help ya out.. And where do all the demo groupies hang out on
IRC???? I need find out if other demo coders are as strange as I am... :-)
I am there on occasion; just /msg me and see....

Oh... If you would like to *pay* me to make a presentation for your company,
etc., get in touch with me (hey- I work cheap!).
