Here we go. The very first LCE demo, geeez. To be honest it was
about time. After going to demoparties for more than 10 years,
AND missing out on Function two years in a row, this was the
least I could do.

Yeah I know, the demo is technically nothing special. In fact,
it's a showcase of a bunch of old classic fx, most of them
actually faked. But I'm happy with the result. The demo was done
in an extremely rushed manner. I started laying down the concept
about one and a half week before the party. I didn't even know
which way to go. I just wanted to code something. And then I
realized I don't know anything about the most basic effects in
demos: plasmas, twisters, sprite stuff etc. So there I had it.
I'm gonna code an homage to these "building blocks". I threw
together a soundtrack in less then a day, so I can have
something to sync the whole thing to. There was no direction or
any detailed ideas, just the base concept. I quickly realized
that I'm not gonna be able to do the thing before the party if I
start from scrach, so I needed a framework that can easily
manage 2D graphics. After a quick look around I found LOVE2D, a
simple game development framework. It was perfect for the job,
even though I had zero experience in LUA programming, but I got
used to it very fast. I built up a demo skeleton framework in a
day, with a very simple shader that limits the number of colors
and pixelates the output in real time. From there it was pretty
fast to add all the stuff. When I had an idea of an effect, I
immediately sat down and coded it without overcomplicating
anything. Not surprisingly, the final prod turned out a bit
chaotic. I tried to change the order of the scenes to make it a
bit more enjoyable, but I know it's still lacks a smooth flow.
Hopefully next time.
