Nice that you look in the readme file. After 18 years, we | | have finally released a new demo. If you haven't already looked at it, | | you should do that now. ;) The background informations can be found here. | | | | Before we start, you should get some information about the demo. | | | | In windowed mode, the demonstration appears in 1024x768, in full-screen | | mode, the image is drawn on the desktop resolution. | | | | The FPS has been limited to 60 frames. Everything should run smoothly on | | normal PCs with a 3D graphics card. From Windows 7, 4GB memory and the | | hardware version of 2010, there should be no problems. | | | | Controls | | ======== | | | | Esc = end the demo | | Space = jump to next Part | | F = FPS display on/off | | R = restart the Demo | | F4 = switch fullscreen / windows | | F9 = make a screenshot as PNG | | | | We save the screenshots in the folder: | | C:\Users\[Username]\AppData\Local\The_90s\Screenshots\ | | | | Why this demo? | | ============== | | | | The last joint project of Shadow Bandit and Magic van Lam was the demo | | "Scoop" in 1998. It was also created in a few days before the Evoke '98 | | and was shown there. So, a few days before Evoke 2016 we thought it | | would be fu***** great to create something new. Since, we are children | | of the 1990s DOS Demoscene, it was obvious to remember back to the | | "good old days". | | | | Yes, the effects have been seen already 1000 times, but we still love them.| | Also, or just because they are pretty lame. ;-) | | | | Credits | | ======= | | | | Shadow Bandit: Code, Design | | Magic van Lam: Code, Music, Visual, Design | | | | A few of the samples used are from the Demos "Cronologia", "Panic", | | "Second Reality", "Verses", "Stash" and "The Secret Life of Mr. Black". | | | | The samples were used to start the parts and so that the time sections or | | more to remember certain effects. | | | | The complete music from Part 1 is based on melodies from "Cronologia". | | | | The Parts | | ========= | | | | The demo is a little journey through the PC demos of the 1990s. Part 1 is | | symbolic for the years 1991 to 1993. Here we see typical effects of this | | period as Scroller, Shadebobs, Plasma, Rotozoomer and much more. | | | | Part 2 begins with 1994. The style has changed and there have been liked to| | show 3D objects. It's the home of the torus and rubber ducks. :P | | Like in Part 1, this one is completed by a tunnel. Here you can clearly | | see the progress that has been made between 1993 (Tunnel of Part 1) and | | 1995 (Tunnel of Part 2). | | | | The third part is mainly for the years 1996 and 1997. Now, 3D dominated the| | Demoscene and techno music with strobe effects. The Bomberman | | commemorates a demo that we released in 1996. Yes, we love Bomberman! | | | | Whoever takes it exactly will notice that not everything is authentic. For | | example, the resolution, the quality of some graphics or the interference | | effect. Some looked at that not as good at other places, people have | | previously given more trouble. We made the "The 90s" mainly on an | | entertaining time travel, with an almost (more or less) 1:1 copy of starts | | "Cronologia" and terminates in a techno-noise. This should consciously | | remember intros like "Jizz" and "Stash". | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | README.TXT README.TXT README.TXT README.TXT README.TXT README.TXT README.TXT| @-----------------------------------------------------------------------------@
