Son et Lumière by Paranoia [web]
THE 'SON ET LUMIERE' DEMO
FROM PARANOIA
ENGLISH
-------
Paranoia consists of me and
'Im. Me, being Exarch, and 'im being
DNA. Why, you ask, have we adopted
such tacky pseudonyms? A good
question. Son et Lumiere, by the way,
is French for 'Sound & Light', just
in case you didn't know....
Exarch, in reality, is Simon,
a mere 15 years of age. DNA is Dan
(the anagram of which forms his
pseudonym) who is 13 and acne-
inflicted . We both live in West
Dorset (Embarrassing!!!), but we go
to entirely different schools.
(DNA attends Colfox Comprehensive
for for the strange).
Selected PowerBasic files
have been included in the folder
called 'Listings'. This is our
first and last demo to be done
mainly in PowerBasic, not
because it's bad, but because
we've graduated to DevpacST 2.
We've been programming the ST
for around 6 months, and this
is our first effort at muzix
programming. Before the ST, I
did BBCs and Archimedes, and DNA
did C64s (Yeucchh!!!)
Between us, our training
conists of:
1 half-hour drum lesson
3 half-hour guitar lessons
2 years membership of the
ST. Osmunds school band (!!?)
Playing the tambourine at the
Broadmayne First School nativity
play in 1984
7 years of intensely boring
parent-imposed piano lessons
Extra hardware used included
DNA's Yamaha PSS-790 Midi Keyboard
set-up, Retrop Legin's ProSound
Sampler and my Sharp EL-557
(for all the tricky maths bits).
Sorry some of the artwork is
tacky, but I dropped out of art
as soon as I got to upper school!
(and DNA couldn't tell a paint
brush from his bum).
SOFTWARE USED...
Grafix.......Degas Elite
Sampling.....ProSound Designer Gold
Daata Sound
Musix........Quartet
68000 Code...DevpacST 2
Basic Code...PowerBasic
NOTE:
IF THE MAIN MUZIX WERE STORED
CONVENTIONALLY IN 4 DIGI-VOICES,
WHICH REPEATED EACH OTHER AS
NECESSARY, THE 11 TRACKS WOULD
REQUIRE A STAGGERING
35.5 MEGABYTES, OR THE EQUIVILANT
OF 35500 FLOPPY DISKS TO STORE!!
HOWEVER, BY USING QUARTET, THE
MUZIX TAKE UP LESS THAT 100K.
Finally, although everbody
despises greetings, we did promise
to say 'Yo' to the following:
RDI
Tocsick
Funky
DOS
Wizard MC
Wilty
Tomath Thaple
Tranx
Bridport Posse
Retrop Legin
This demo was inspired by
all the great demo crews,
and ST Format's programming
series!!! Thanks to DOS &
DJ Merlin for testing it on
their STE.
Live Long and Prosper
