Howdy folks,
Mr Ni! has undergone THERAPY!
THERAPY?! you'll ask yourself... Mr Ni!, asn't that the
wacko who'd be drooling over compression algorithms and
ARJ reverse engineering? Wasn't he the capo-di-tuti-capi
of the TOS-Crew from the Netherlands?
And now you're saying he's joined THERAPY or what?!
....errr... or some girlfriend, maybe? (just a guess...)
Naaahhh, Mr Ni! didn't join another crew named THERAPY.
And he certainly didn't get messed up in some awful
flesh-and-blood relationship.
None such thing! Get real, will ya! ARJ/GUP compression
engine designing/coding doesn't mix well with such
'matters of the heart'. There's coding to be done!
I'll tell ya what sort of THERAPY happened to Mr Ni!
As you'd probably know he's been releasing a couple of
ARJBETA ARJ-compatible compression tools for Atari
machines in recent years and close friends know he's
kind-of GLUED to his compression software and literature.
So Mr Ni! had this weird feeling very recently he'd been
MISSING some thrill... The thrill of DEMO CODING!
And as with drug adicts... you can't have 'm quit all of
a sudden as they'll go beserk and probably inflict some
serious personal injuries upon themselves.
And we (the TOS-crew, that is) are really a bunch
of nice guys (not!), so it was kind of proper to let
Mr Ni! off the ompression hook for a while... let him
have his thrill for a few days so he'd be able to write
more compression software in the future.
So he started out to have this ancient idea of his set
in code (with a gold rim, you bet).
That's how he's got to writing this little 64KTro called
Kaleidoscope ST
It has a couple of features which'll make the real
cool coders among us have a stiff:
- 1 VBL real-time kaleidoscope (on 8MHz 1040ST!)
- pattern is linked to the music
- complex executable compression (hey, when you've been
coding compression engines for over 4 years and you're
really serious about it, you sure as Hell gotta have
some SERIOUS compression stuff that kicks the shit
out of ICE!)
- designed (schematics, kaleidoscope algorithms) AND
written in just 24 hours AT THE PARTY!
Of course all this is done in 100% pure Assembly.
