   for experience 2023

  Me Myself I
I remember the magic of running a sketchy keygen only to be greeted
by an epic chiptune and the logo of the group graffitied all over my
screen. Even much later in life, the way these animations worked was
like magic to me. But having an interest in creating digital art and
programming, I felt closer and closer... This October, I realized I
was only a few steps away from creating my very own demo.
So this is my attempt at putting it all together for the first time.

  The Journey
The concept started as I was experimenting with dithering and
realized I could fake a pretty good 3D scenery with only screen
space geometry. I created a small sketch mimicking an early
Out Run-esque animation. I expanded the sketch to 3D and let the
nostalgia overtake me as I modeled my favorite childhood supercar.
Next, I needed music, which was completely uncharted territory for
me. It was by far the most challenging part to be able to come up
with something that I feel matches the visuals. Learning to write
music wasn't made easier by the limitations of the format. Finally
having something decent, I was excited to see the size when I first
compiled it all together. 7k. This has gotten me pretty excited,
since this has made it realistic to eventually make it fit into 4k.
So I made a final effort to optimize everything I had and compress
the code as much as I could without giving up too much. In the end,
my work was rewarded by the magical words:
   "Final file size: 4075".

Standing on the shoulders of giants
After realizing how much work goes into creating a demo, I would
like to thank everyone who has previously shared their work, made
their sources open, or provided any insight into their process.
Special thanks to iq for the many articles, tutorials, examples,
and templates that have guided me throughout this journey.
