Release Notes from Ray] ─ ─ ───│─┤ └─┴──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────│─┘ Hi, hello and welcome to chapter 8! One year passed - again. And again this has been a year full or Radical Rhythms releases. We hope, you all enjoyed our work and we'd like to thank all the buddies out there for feedback, comments and other nice stuff. But 1995 also has been a year full of trouble. Some of the major German boards went offline and left big holes in the German supply net, most hurting the distribution of freeware like modules, demos and so on. We too lost some of our important distribution sites - hopefully, we can regain some of our contacts in 1996. And 1995 has also been a year of envynes and bad rumours. Because of some critics published by Cosmic and other radical dudes concerning the bad quality of other peoples work we soon became the bad buddies of the nation. But still there's much of crap on the boards - first-try-it-out modules by beginning composers and so on... We too started composing as beginners - but we didn't release our work and presented it to everyone around. This has, of course, been due to the fact that we did not have access to a BBS by then (in 1990 there haven't been many boards trading binary stuff - the written word has been the intention of those systems by then) but also it had something to do with the scene by then. People haven't been sitting in front of a computer to trade the stuff, moreover there've been the famous copy parties. The traders by then did not have the time and space to take all sort of stuff with them - just the best was taken to the next copy party and so only the good one's stuff survived. In our opinion it is okay to start composing music - that's what we did, too. And we are no gods or masters in making music. But we have some kind of philosophy behind our releases and the productions released by Radical Rhythms. And of course we also made mistakes - that's for sure. But! We also think that it is okay to say what's on your mind. We don't want to degrade anybody - and style, of course, isn't something to talk about. But quality is - and every bad piece of software released is also making other good software suffer from this. This is with commercial software and is the same with demos and so on. We aren't arrogant or anything like this, so please give is the right, too, to say what's on our mind. And please: listen to what you release before your start the upload! Moreover: 8 bits is as up to date as the good old C64! We wish you, your friends an families, a Merry Christmas (or the Season's Greetings, if Christmas does not apply to you) and a Happy New Year. Peace! Stay tuned - against all odds - we are not dead, nor are we planning to split up Radcial Rhythms. Never forget: Radical Rhythms is to blow your mind! Greetings, RAY ─-─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────-[Eot]-─ ┌─┬──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┬─┐ ├ ─-[Chapter 2 1/2. Chapter 8 Installation] ─ ─ ───│─┤ └─┴──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────│─┘ If you want to experience the full Chapter 8, you must copy the content of all five archives into one directory, for example 'C:\CHAPTER8'. But you can also just install disk 1 and one up to six of the other archives you will just not be able to listen to all songs. If you have already 16PLAY or another DMF-player capable of 16-bit samples you can replay all songs without the files in archive of disk 1. Nevertheless, complete installation is highly recommended! -─────────────────────-──────────────────────-─ -──────────────────────-── - The SVGA-Shell needs a VESA-driver installed, some newer cards have it in ROM already. You can move in the shell with the arrow keys or TAB. Escape stops first the song and exists then the shell. You can change the master volume with +/- - use this if you get distortion or if the sound if too low (like on AWE32). Before you can listen to the songs, you must first select your sound- device. If you got wrong, reboot and delete CHAPTER8.CFG. Please refer to the other textfile (*.RR) that come with this package if you have special questions. If you encounter problems with the SVGA-shell, please report them to us, and an update will follow. Special thanks to Code-X/D-lusion and all the hardworkin RR people ! ─-─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────-[Eot]-─
