 ───────────────────────────────[ DESCRIPTION ]────────────────────────────────

BrainView shows demoscene and warez text art the way it was meant to be
seen. Not a text editor with a black background: a viewer that knows what
a SAUCE record is, which palette DOS actually used, and why the ninth
pixel column matters when a box-drawing character sits in it.

It reads the file, not the extension. NFO, ANSI, ASCII, DIZ, the binary
formats the scene left behind - XBin with its embedded font and palette,
TundraDraw in 24-bit colour, BinaryText, PCBoard, Avatar - and the 8- and
16-bit picture formats no Windows viewer opens.

 ───────────────────────────────[ NEW IN 1.8.0 ]───────────────────────────────

[+] Pictures, not just text. C64 Koala, Art Studio, Doodle, Advanced
Art Studio, Amica Paint and FLI. Amiga IFF ILBM with HAM6, HAM8,
EHB and 24-bit. Atari ST DEGAS, DEGAS Elite and NEOchrome. ZX
Spectrum screens. PNG, JPEG, GIF and BMP too, so a release folder
       opens in one place.

[+] PETSCII. C64 .seq files render with a real 8x8 character set built
into the executable, reverse video and the shifted charset
included. The installer can drop the same font on your system.

[+] Every picture keeps its shape. A C64 pixel is not square and
neither is an Atari medium-res one; each format carries its own
aspect, so the PNG you export matches what is on screen.

[+] Everything else still applies. Zoom, CRT, gallery thumbnails,
folder browsing, Explorer previews and the PNG export work on a
picture the same way they work on a .ans.

 ────────────────────────────────[ THE VIEWER ]────────────────────────────────

[*] Pixel-perfect view. Eleven bitmap fonts ride inside the executable:
IBM VGA 8x16 and 8x8, Amiga Topaz 1 and 2 with their + variants,
       MicroKnight and MicroKnight+, mOsOul, P0T-NOoDLE, and a C64
character set. Nothing to install, no fallback glyphs, no gaps in
a shaded block. The SAUCE record picks the font, the letter spacing
and the 4:3 aspect on its own.

[*] Modem-speed playback. 300 to 115200 baud, the artwork appearing
character by character the way it once crawled down a terminal.
Record the replay straight to an animated GIF.

[*] Gallery. Thumbnails of every supported file in the folder or the
pack, rendered with the same engine, in a sidebar you can leave open.

[*] CRT. Phosphor glow and scanlines over the pixel view, for the
       full sitting-too-close-to-a-14-inch-monitor experience.

[*] Links, exports and lookups. Clickable URLs and mail addresses,
export to PNG, GIF, HTML or UTF-8 text, copy the art as an image,
and jump from a SAUCE record to the artist or group on 16colo.rs
       and Demozoo in one click.

[*] Explorer integration. Optional thumbnails and a preview pane, so a
folder of scene art stops looking like a row of Notepad icons.

 ─────────────────────────────────[ INSTALL ]──────────────────────────────────

   1. Run BrainView-1.8.0-setup.exe.
   2. Tick the associations if you want .nfo, .ans or the picture formats
to open here. The C64 font installs unless you untick it.
   3. The Explorer integration is optional and wants the .NET 8 Desktop
Runtime. The viewer itself carries its own runtime and needs nothing.

 ──────────────────────────────────[ NOTES ]───────────────────────────────────

The bitmap font data comes from libansilove, BSD 2-Clause, with thanks
to Stefan Vogt, Brian Cassidy and Frederic Cambus. The C64 character set
is generated from UNSCII by Viznut, released into the public domain.
