The inspiration for the glitches came from
v3nom, metheara and (l)ava's "5th Annual Demoscene Card Exchange" card
which had the line "(May) your glitches (be) intentional".
Gigabates was posting a photo of a sculpture with spheres partially
fused into each other. He was joking "Found some IRL metaballs".
Platon42 replied "Definitely touching."
The rest is history.
