It's easy to go under 100 bytes,
use only es and ds, initialize it like

Since initial value of cx is 255 don't xor but increment:
inc cx
pal: shrd ax, cx, 18
...
Use only si or di for both current pixel position
and setting new pixel, etc etc

frag: i optimized too stuff like cmp al,1 is 1b smaller than cmp bl,1 but did not check on the segments, don't know why. so thanks for reminding me (= i could get the pixel too by using si but it makes no difference. di is only for counting so i got used to it (since it was in other usage in the first version before any optimizing at all [about 160b]). but still i chopped off 7b at the moment just in 2 minutes. so thanks a lot. i'm working on it (:
