You gave your own prod a 'rulez'. In the past, there have been a few cases where many members of a large group came in and thumbed up their own production, and people got upset about it because it unfairly and misleadingly inflated the prod's popularity ranking. As a result, now thumbing up your own prod often results in a bunch of righteous people coming in and thumbing the prod down in disgust :) So I suppose by p01's analogy, thumbing your own prod is the cancer.. and the negative response of the angry mob is the expected symptom.

Personally, if there isn't an onslaught of group members giving a thumb, and it's just a primary contributor giving a thumb up because he's proud of his work, I think it's cute and no problem (who isn't proud of a good prod?). One could make the argument that it's more dignified to not give the thumb, but let's face it.. this is pouet :)
