I don't want to put down this prod (I have not seen it) but I'd like to point out that there were some pretty decent chess games for the spectrum ZX80 that ran with only 1KB of memory, yet gave the player a hard time to beat them!
Of course, those players had to be *very* patient waiting for the machine to think :-)

and IF there are thousands
of chess games in only 1KB,
i still like this one because
you see that this guy had
fun while coding.

Hey, I killed the king and the game still played! wtf?
I am not a hot chess player, I used the classic lamer 3-move check-mate with queen+bishop...
Still, this is quite impressive for a bit over 8kb...

sorry. just because it is small does not mean it must not suck. this is not chess, this is random. it actually should be pretty easy to code a relatively good chess progy in <4k. the algorithms are known and pcs are so fast, you can skip quite a few opts if you are not going for world class.
btw: "one of the most decent and complicated strategy games EVER". chess is actually one of the games that is very easy for computers to play, as it is mainly(!) a tactic game (esp for people on lower levels of play), and its general complexity is pretty low (number of possibilities per move, number of moves). not that i don't love to play it, but there are much much much harder games for computers to play (check GO)

Well, for computers sure, but for human players against computers... not really, at least not for me. ;)

do not post about it in the comments, it will get lost.

It's a pretty wicked idea to put one of the most descent and complicated strategy games EVER in only 8.44 kb, including ascii art, a compact how-to-play help, a chanced dos font to display the figures and different options.
On the other hand, the computer oponent plays really weak, most moves seem to be random and some of the rules seem not to be implemented (it doesn't matter if the king is in check or not etc.)
Still, very funny. :)
(btw: the menus and comments are all in German language...)
