All of those groups were also active in the demoscene.
Both, Cosmos Design and Digital Excess made (afaik)only one real demo. X-Ample did some more. But none of them were as good as their games.
So, having the game developer background in mind, it's not surprising that most of their demos look more like game intros or contact notes.
