The 270 sprites are in small part of the screen, therefore there's many straightforwards optimizations available.
On the other hand Leonard managed to top that "record" with 271 sprites and a curves covering all the screen.

Well first of all, the screendump is incredibly bad; the sprites do move over the entire screen, the screendump is just captured at a bad moment. But yes the most sprites are in the center, but they can, and do, move all around.
The thing is, that with the technique used here, spice could have done 2000 sprites just as well as 270. But leo calls this one a cheat, and his own one not.
