final release of startrekker by bjorn wesen a.k.a. exolon/fairlight.
a curious tracker, i'd say. features include 8 channel mode, fm/am synthesis for generating either realtime sounds or samples, midi support, macro editor...

if i'm not mistaken, startrekker 1.0 (released 14th july '90) was based on noisetracker 2.0 (released 1st july '90) by mahoney & kaktus. quote from exolon: "MIDI: Perhaps the greatest improvement in the soundtracker history! Made by Exolon for the NoiseTracker 2.0 but Mahoney stole my routines some days before."

also, again if i'm not mistaken, later on exolon also made a commercial version of startrekker called "audio sculpture".

I used it a bit, and loved this tracker. The 8 channels weren't sync. Oktalyzer sounded really noizy but was amazing, with a terrible interface but much more visual with the res :)
God, I'm that old

This was the first tracker that I'd use in my old amiga 500.
Lot of fun!

google says audio sculpture is here: http://marcer.dyndns.org/digitrack.html
darn... that quote at the top sounds really stupid.. but then again, I was like 16 years old :)

i wonder if anybody ever used those crackpot features like the macro editor and FM synthesis...

anyway thanks for the comments, ol' timers!

Pretty cool, but don't expect your multichannel mods to sound anything like they do in this prog when you play them in your xm-player.
learnt alot with this when i was a wee youth, playing with the am & fm synthesis :)

Does anyone have some sort of reference for this? I want to know how the MIDI works.

Oh gosh didn't remember it was released by Fairlight. Just had a chat about StarTrekker a couple of days ago. Saw this in around 1992-1993. I used and liked the FM synthesis of Startrekker. It was the first time I saw a usable software synthesis on a computer (AM doesn't count). I only had experience on LA synthesis so FM didn't feel as intuitive as it could have been with all the waiting, so I ended up only tweaking the presets. Too bad there's most likely nothing left of the tracks I made back then.

Forgot the thumb. BTW did it have midi out as well? I remember only seeing midi input in trackers (except OctaMED) which I didn't find that useful.

the most.

I now remember using it with MIDI. It was great, not perfect but I could use the STf and Cubase with a cheap Yamaha PSS 790 then use the Amiga (1,5Mo) like an Akai sampler :P with hip hop breakbeats...

Nice one Buckethead, that sounds like a cool setup! I used 2 amigas one with Music-X for MIDI while triggering loops and samples on the secondary amiga :)

It was really fun time Keito ;) With this tracker I really had to buy a little sampler (no name I think with DSS). Later I bought bars and pipes lite, I didn't knew Music-X, from what I see on Youtube, awesome :)
Buckethead, yeah it seems like old amiga midi users were in one camp or the other, bars n pipes or music-x, i liked both apps, but learnt music-x first.
