Starting from the original mesh, I changed the format several times, from raw list of xyz triplets, to heightmap, to triangle strip, ... various quantization levels.
The heightmap tests were fun, and went as far down as 730 bytes, and I thinkg a marching cube approach is possible in 1kb, but visually it was already too far away from the original mesh to my taste.
