This ruled big time!
One of my favourite productions at bp this year.
It's cool to see more and more hiphop-styles in the demoscene.

thanx for the thumbs. Was hell of an effort to finish it.
The playlist position in the compo could have been
better to to get the crowd more rowdy ;D

but nevertheless the first imaginations have grown for the next production...perhaps a
direct coop with maclaim

I am all for going against society, rebelling, and even taking the public space into use (squatting, Loesje posters, that sort of stuff), but I think this went over the top. I see no artistic value in the graffiti on the train and someone (the taxpayer) is going to have to pay for it to be removed, and that money sure could be used better. I have seen a lot of good graffiti art, but this is not it.
sucks added on the 2005-04-13 21:57:42 by Preacher Preacher
well, at least I was even afraid too that this matter
would cause a disqualification and I know trainbombing is a hot iron to work with coz it always leads to discussions about legal rights vs. art & urban communication. But to quell this at the very start I suggest you to visit the following sites and place your oppinion regarding graff.

http://www.rowdyclub.de
http://www.maclaim.com

What shall commented (or thumbed) here I guess is the overall look, timing, effects, editing, music etc.

At least thank you for honest criticism Preacher...next time the deal will go to the stylistic aspects of graff which you might find more interesting.
added on the 2005-04-14 19:27:44 by d0DgE d0DgE
from an aesthetical point of view, the legal/moral aspect left aside, the place for graffiti is exactly on trains. moving letters on moving steel. that's the way.
added on the 2005-04-19 16:57:35 by dipswitch dipswitch
What I still fail to understand is, why should the graffiti even be removed at all with tax payers' money, like Preacher said. It looks a lot better than an average plain coloured train :)
added on the 2005-04-19 17:02:35 by teel teel
was this that crappy boring "whoooo we are artist because we make damage to public property"-video?
added on the 2005-04-19 17:09:00 by Gargaj Gargaj
erm...gargaj...in germany trains are no public property any more since years.
And as I've written above...don't use this here to discuss the rights or wrongs of graff...comment the way the production was made, not that the shown content was illegal or offending to anyone.
added on the 2005-04-19 20:00:20 by d0DgE d0DgE
plus it's not about being artists.
added on the 2005-04-19 22:03:56 by dipswitch dipswitch
yep d!p...it's about identifying yourself in a society that shrinkes a human beeing to a couple of numbers.Graff here was taken to visualise it in an extreme (some may say offending) form.

AGAIN, I want to recommend you to place your opinion about Graff or NoGraff on this site:

the rowdyclub

if you have the balls to face a discussion with
real writers.

We, who did only use Graff video material as polarising element, do want your comments regarding editing quality, music and such...
So don't fall on our nerves with bolony
suggestions that even 10 years ago weren't
effective.

rocks. Zweckform, that's just a damn stupid comment. there is stuff drawn on paper on this production and the wholecar action just shows pure amazing skills. big respects to guys. Zweckform i'd like to see you trying to do that kinda lettering on those proportions. doing a wholecar is so damn hard. and well, the effects really suited the video. and typography. it's so nice that every text was bombed, no "graffiti" .ttf's used. well. i loved it. but then again, i always love nice train actions. ;)

This demo is as wild as "The Warriors" was! ;)
Cult!
In the best of taste...
One of the best wild I ever saw.

Btw. there will be a new "The Warriors" 2006 done by Tony Scott.

i mostly liked the tags.. the videos were also nice, and most of the cgi was quite cool.
but the video editing was quite bad imho, and the ripped music didnt help much in that department either..
i wouldnt watch it again despite liking the graff and cgi biz so i cant really thumb it either way..

now this is what I call solid critic :) Thanks a lot.
For sure there is enough to do better next time...like every time.
Regarding the "ripping": If you meant the song by Joe Walsh...ok it's taken from the O.S.T. but for my taste there _had_ to be a rock tune. At all I've felt a bit uncomfortable too by chosing a 3rd party music for the endpart...that explains why it is so clearly credited in the endscroller ;)

I don't know how I should rate the content since there are some real good animiations but on the other hand I dislike overdrawn windows. Tagging a train with a group name doesn't appeal me. When it comes to graffiti I like pics, not logos.
MadenMann:
logos==pieces (sceneglossar|graffglossar) but who cares ;)
you like real artwork with graff-technique...take a look on the site of our associates (they did the button and template anims) MaClaim

ps:
oh...I wont consider The Warriors an "afro" movie.

Haters, PISS OFF!!. Graffiti can't be stopped!

Really enjoyed your prod Dodge. I must admit I was on desperate hunt for cans in Bingen, without any luck..hehe..seemed really easy to hit trains down there :)( I also think there were some legal walls downtown...lets do a wall next year.

Looking forward to your production next year,If you get the MaClaim dudes involved it will be insane.

Was planning myself on doing some graff-wilddemo on po-RNO myself next year, but it would probably fall way into the shadow of "The Key to success" and you next prod....but who knows... ;)

@tft
Wow. Thats a really intelligent argument in favour of drawing over other peoples property.

I have nothing against graffiti style art. I have nothing against legitimate usage of that kind of art (i recall a skate shop paying a local graffiti artist to decorate their building, and the result was really cool), but I really can't condone criminal damage, which is all this sort of thing amounts to.

If you spray private property, thats really bad. The owner has to spend time and effort to clean it off or repaint their property. Would you like me to come and ruin your car? Or paint over the front of your house?

If you spray public property, well thats different. I don't necessarily have any problem with "sticking it to the man", but when its my tax money that has to pay to have it cleaned off, I'd prefer it if the graffiti wasn't sprayed in the first place.

I can't see any argument in defence of illegal graffiti (or "criminal damage" as it is properly termed) that can't be dismissed as immature or pathetic.

@dodge
as for thumbing purely on the artistic merit of the production, I thumbed down because my only reaction to it at breakpoint basically was that i didn't like the way it glorified criminal damage, and seemingly tried to make out graffiti artists as some kind of hero. The whole thing just annoyed me.
added on the 2005-12-06 18:12:50 by xeron xeron
well, the last postings by tft & xeron perfectly represent both poles of opinion on this issue.
Graff admirers like it, graff haters don't like it.
Was expectable somehow.

Thumb for giving juvenile vandalism a platform, and the "urban art" aspect regarding the graffiti shown is highly questionable and doesn´t differ much from plain tagging.
Video composition is fine, though.
