some cliche space demo which is not particularly bad, but was already done a hundred times and already looked better on inferior platforms.
but featured a refreshing crash in the compo :)

Hellfire: It didn´t crash: it was running in the wrong resolution. look up the evoke 2005 thread for the story.

to the demo: rocks! Nice work for their first demo and fully done with the whole 3D engine in 3 weeks!
GIVE US MORE ;-)

So - you stole music from the psytrance-gods, did a piss-poor remix - and created an ugly visualization for it. You do know you're going to burn in hell, right? ...RIGHT?

Hi all,

since fellow sceeners seem to have problems getting this release to work I've encoded a HQ video file (130megs), which can be downloaded here at scene.org. A low quality version (50megs) will follow.

We've also added some infos and download links to our homepage for those who want to get the exe file running. (.net 1.1 and directx redist aug05)

As for some of the comments here, you're right it may not have looked as good as some of the demos you might be used to, but we only had 3 weeks of total development time for the entire thing, we hadn't even integrated shaders yet - we had spent those weeks working and working on it, even et the evoke05 right up to the last minutes. Considering that and this being our first demo I personally think it came out great.

As for the 'beamer incident': I take total responsibility for that, I should not have relied on Vesa DCC detecting the correct refresh rate. I should have double checked that, since it turns out it output 120Hz to the beamer... (the funny thing is, we were asked how we produced that drug effect in the demo afterwards *g) Well but the whole presentation-on-our-laptop thing came pretty unexpected too, about 5 minutes before the combo began, since it turned out the main presentation machine had still not been outfitted with the proper required files.

One thing I didn't like though. There were some comments about how we could have ever used c# and .net and so on, when the problem with the beamer occurred. And when I restarted the demo I also heard 'oh no, don't play it again'. I don't know about those guys, but I think it's pretty lame and unfair to fellow sceeners, I can certainy tell you that our coder was completely pissed off afterwards, and I think he had a right to be.

Ok, and last but not least in response to hornet: Yes I might burn in hell, but not for that ;) We had the choice of either abandoning the entire project (as the guy who was supposed to create us an appropriate space music kind of abandoned us in the middle of the project and we were left with nothing usable to work with) - or go with the alternative choice and do a little remix of good space music so that we at least have something to time the effects to. And I chose the ladder. Too much work and nerves went in there to just mothball the project. So if you want to blame someone, blame me - it was my call.

PS: As for the 'ugly' visualisation, as you call it, I'm glad that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. We at least did something in the area of space, as that was the party theme. Btw, where was your entry for demo at the evoke05, so that we can compare it to ours? *g ;)

PS/2: To all the other's who liked our demo: thx for the positive feedback, you shall get more in the future :-)

didn't like the style and the theme that much, it feels so like 1995 demos made by school kids.
technical realization was ok though and of course it's always nice to see new groups.
concerning people shouting things during competitions: it sucks if it's unfair, yes. simply prove them wring next time =)

visually it really felt like nothing special, but still big thumb up for first time effort! fresh talent is what the scene always needs, especially nowadays! now you just have to get a reliable musician and improve your design skills. :)

this sucked BAD. the music would've been damn fucking bad even if it hadn't been stolen from the most obvious "space" themed tune ever written. the visuals were just plain cheesy, badly directed and rather ugly.

also, don't thumb up your own prod.

I like this demo. Especially the glimmering stars. =oD
I don´t mind the remixed soundtrack as it fits.
But next time just post a news on Ojuice that you need a soundtrack for a demo and you will find some musician. Or generally get a musician for your team. Shouldn´t be that difficult. Or is Data your musician? What was so difficult to do an own (not remixed)track then?
Äh ,and maybe don´t use exotic extensions that the demo needs to run next time so thanks for the video.
Nevertheless I enjoy watching the demo and wish you guys the best for your next demos.

Ripped music and weird direction (hint: if you have big objects, you have to move _slow_ or they will look a lot less massive).
Still, i'd like to think to this as to a tribute ;)

As promised, here's the low quality video file (50megs) of our demo.

@Skyrunner: Sorry for thumbing my own prod, didn't know. Noted for future reference ;)
