- there were all sorts of hardware accelerated things for 2D in PC graphics hardware. Just nothing standard which is why they were in practice only used by respective WIndows drivers. But it wasn't all CPU at all.
- I don't recall that many demos using many hardware VGA features. Mode 13h and some Mode-X stuff were too easy and convenient, and by the tine 486/pentium came around it it was more about other stuff than banging VGA. But I am sure there were some demos that used those.
