I think there is more to it than imbalance of power. There is a belief that genAI models can indeed create novel images/videos, but how novel they can really be is an open question. And the reaction to the unknown is fear (or hyping if you are a bad actor taking golden shot at it).
yes that sucks, to me especially the ecological part, but it's capitalism at its "best"
I use LLMs as a starting point for proper search; the rest is like meh IMHO (so far)...AGI done right would be fun (no copyright issues), but I doubt anyone is close (despite the claims)
