current AI tech is just boring, no need to be worried or excited or whatever, not sure why you guys freak out so much -
spoken like a true nihilist -
I'll try and keep that in mind when Shadertoy has 504 because of the GenAI bro's crawlers stealing code again. -
RIP Paul Di'Anno :-( -
Oh ?! That's the reason Shadertoy is slow lately ? -
Yes: https://x.com/iquilezles/status/1838858759336267842 -
FFS... :( -
Alibaba/Tencent AI scrapers have also been close to bringing down the OpenMPT web server thanks to scraping the shit out of our code repository viewer, completely disregarding robots.txt -
it's sad, one way is to hide the content for legitimate user accounts and set download qoutas, open source times are over -
this is why we can't have nice things - 2024-10-22

Sounds like the same bot that hit Demozoo a couple of weeks back. Too shitty to even parse paths correctly, so it was spamming URLs like /productions/tagged/cables/music/production/music/music . Spoofed user-agent and over a huge IP range, so couldn't block it without blocking all of Singapore :-/ -
on that note, there's currently something scraping pouet from 94.31.xxx.xxx (germany) using a "Firefox/70.0" user agent -
there is a magic solution for decade(s) that is called Fail2Ban -
well.. the only people who feel truly defensive about AI are those who most likely will lose job/sense of life cause of it, eventually as a risk. the rest is just new era to be learnt. -
or those who don't want to live in a capitalist dystopia -
Most of us aren't techbros. -
regarding scrapping though. perfectly fits to dead internet theory unfortunately, which is just another reason why Web should die and be replaced by something less bloated (technologically), cluttered (content wise) and misleading (social media just needs to die!) -
it's not ok to steal data and disregard licenses, that's the issue here, on the other hand, it was also happening before AI -
not at this scale - sam altman turned the internet into eve online where scamming and exploitation is not only possible, not only encouraged, but considered bad form not to do -
New Javascript II is upon us! -
Gargaj: I agree. It's a race who gathers most data, so it's not just Sam. -
seems like everybody who scraps is aware that there will be a counter-fight eventually so they want to grab as much as possible, before web closes its door -
What counter fight? It's imbalance of money (=power), so maybe you can get small recompensation for your "loses" if lucky, but long term you lose anyway. -
In his Nobel Prize speech Geoff Hinton stated that he is proud of one of his students for having fired Altman. -
"not only encouraged, but considered bad form not to do" how is that different from g'd 'ol real-life stage 4 capitalism? seems like altman just made a sweet internet bubble catch up with the reality
