- demo Windows Sisyphus Unchained by Andromeda Software Development [web]
- i rather like the visual style, and the music was interesting too. bold / different for a demo maybe, a bit of a throwback to the older asd "alternative" demos.
but it doesn't go anywhere, it outlives its welcome at half the runtime, and the music and visual feel completely disconnected, so.. as a piece of motion graphics i cant say it works. needed a stronger creative direction to pull it off. - isokadded on the 2024-04-06 21:30:01
- demo Windows The Legend of Sisyphus by Andromeda Software Development [web]
- wtf did i just watch??
some moments are brilliant, some i cant decide if they are brilliant or laugh out loud terrible, and the rest just raise so many questions. how did a europop music video get cut in here? why do the statues twitch like they are having a seizure? why is there a 3d scanned tunnel? does that old water effect have to be in every asd demo? are we still "rendering lit 3d with point sprites" like it's new, > 10 years after it was? is it cheesy or actually brilliantly subversive (the flashing eyes/turning to skulls suggested the latter)?
it follows the familiar ASD direction route of putting random things together with clever transitions to make it seem like it's coherent - and it creates some good moments. but honestly, i think this needed a slightly stronger designer+director hand to make the "wtf" actually make sense and make the narrative come out. as it is, i end up asking "is there a narrative at all (is it just random scenes)" rather than "what is the narrative/point".
great work with the volcap, that feels new in a demo. way nicer than 2.5d/kinect and offers more possibilities than skinned rigs. i also really appreciate the production value in going out and shooting this material for a demo. (ignore the filesize haters.)
i also really like the hashed line look. some nice glitch fx, some really nice uses of the volcap meshes for effects, with e.g. connecting them with polygons, or running particles off them.
overall it's still a thousand miles above other demos. if there's a future for the pc demo as a relevant artform, it probably looks a bit like this. - rulezadded on the 2023-08-14 13:21:00
- demo Windows Precious and fragile by Andromeda Software Development [web] & enoughrecords [web]
- the sudden music shift was a surprise (to say the least). i was like, did youtube just fire up in the background? :)
i like the overall mood + visual. that's some nice glitch/distortion shaders there!
but on the negative side: i cant see any connection between the kinect dancers and the music, or any reason for the moves they are doing or for them being there in general; the first half is a bit too simplistic; and the second half is too overblown - the screen is just flat colour blocks for too long so it loses the dynamics. - isokadded on the 2023-06-26 19:01:51

- demo Windows Arrested Development by Bypass [web] & The PIMP Brigade
- pretty bold to go with software rendering at 1080p in the PC compo but it runs smoothly and still stands up visually against all the big GPUs - respect. also appreciate the late 90s style, very watchable.

- demo Windows Works for Everybody by Still [web]
- it's really really really well done - the presentation is excellent.
but putting this in the pc demo compo at revision (which even at low estimates can be 2 hours long) was brave :) it probably belongs in a museum (meant in the nicest possible way - an interactive exhibit) - rulezadded on the 2023-04-11 18:37:52
- demo Windows Reality Check by Exist

- demo Windows JavaScript The Interloper by mfx [web]
- the first part is nice, some good camera work and smart material choices, baked lighting etc. thumb up for that. nice to see an entirely different thing from mfx.
but then it explodes.. and it suffers from technical limitations which kill the effect somewhat. the exploding stuff seems to have no physical relation to the scene so it seems like a 2nd layer floating on top. the scene doesn't shadow the particles, do the particles even collide with the walls? a bit better production value would have made all the difference here. - rulezadded on the 2023-04-11 17:51:32
