Alright, i have no where else to turn to and I am in need of some advice. Im 20 years old and i am about to finish my education, Electrotechnician. Main subjects are things like FM/AM Radio's, PIC Assembler programming, schematics, circuit boards etc...

Now i want to continue learning, but i need to pick between 2 educations. Electrotechnician or Game Design. Now this game design basicly is ofcourse related to games, but i gues also to grapical stuff like 3D Max, programming engines etc.

Both attract me, because i like electronics, but i also like graphical interactive stuff.

Does anyone have any experiance in one of these industries or even a job/education? Any help is totally welcome =)
pick the one that you don't mind hating after a while

electrotechnician will pay a lot better and will probably be more varying to work with... and if you keep programming games or demos as a hobby you could work with that too ...

thing is, what you work with is very hard to keep as a hobby, so if you love making games, don't be a game programmer, gargaj is right.

Is electrotechnician=electrical engineer?

Both can be frustrating jobs with abusive work hours and so on. Do what you really like.

@flashlight: you probably don't do either graphics nor programming in game design. it should be much more about gameplay. like how to balance a game, how to make it fun, and other stuff like that. They might give you some clues about programming or graphics so that you know what you're talking about when asking for this or that gameplay, but really, in you job it will be much more about excell, word and notepad than about 3dsMax or Visual Studio. </dream breaking>

Might be dream breaking, but atleast its the truth. All the info from schools and stuff are roses and stars....
Both give 0 points for chicks, so I'd choose EE. You can do lots of different stuff and the pay is good.

I'd guess game design is a bit of everything. In the end it is probably just hype to attract students.

Not everybody can become CEO or game designer.

I'd like to study blockbuster movie director.
